>>212950798The inconsistencies are there because originally the OT God was a combination of a couple of different gods (mainly El and Yahweh) and monotheism was a retcon. Most of the time the OT God having a spergout about people worshiping other gods as well as him is not because other gods are false, it's because the Yahweh cultists wanted the polytheistic Israelites to only worship their preferred god from the pantheon. The idea that God is all powerful and omniscient and there are no other gods at all is a very late invention, relatively speaking.
In fact, since we are talking about Exodus, there are even remnants of the old polytheistic worldview still left in the current Bible, for example the passage where they talk about how the Lord is greater than all the other gods (Ex 18:11). There is no talk of all the other gods being fake, just celebrating that the God of the Israelites beat the rest in a contest of power. Yahweh is a storm/warrior god, so that's his area of expertise. Also, back then gods used to be much more localized and tied to certain geographical areas, so it's even more impressive narratively that Yahweh managed to beat the Egyptian gods on their home turf.
