They are half way through Second Foundation. I read the books completely, and the show is significantly different but is IMO better than a straight retelling of the books.

The funniest part is the worst parts of the show are the battles themselves. They're pretty boring, which fits with the books where the specifics of the battle didn't matter. The characters, the world building, and setting are just very comfy and interesting.

I was forced to watch the first season twice, because my wife wanted to watch after I started season 2 (I thought she would find the show boring), and it was actually very interesting the second time around since a ton of shit I didn't understand I did the second time.

Here's a test: If you think the Expanse first season was great up until the Donnager episode, where you felt it was a boring space battle, then you will like Foundation TV Show. If you thought The Expanse didn't get good until the Donnager battle episode, then you will not like Foundation.

I am betting so. The show writers can't seem to figure out how to write it so that societies fall apart through decay of culture, politics, or complacency. It always has to be with some big calamity: The space elevator, the two planets being nuked, the fleet being destroyed, and probably the superweapon being used on Trantor or some other important planet..

The scene where Gaal wakes up on a spaceship and sciences the shit out of figuring out where she is was so funny to me. It lasts for so fucking long and its just a montage of random space mumbo jumbo with no explanation that exists for the sole reason of making her look heckin smart.

I only watch for the the emperor(s). Gaal is so fucking boring and gay. Atleast Jared Harris keeps me awake during her scenes. The Mule could be interesting but so far he's just comically evil.

Atleast something seems to happen this season. The less I see of Gaal, the better.

It is only superficially related to the books. The best part is the imperial storyline, as usual, Lee Pace specifically knocks it out of the park. The worst part is the foundation storyline in S1, but IMO it improves a lot in S2, though here too there's a mentalic storyline that drags. Surprisingly, Jared Harris as Hari Seldon is rather crap.

You're not going to enjoy it if you're expecting a straight adaptation of the books.
It's basically an original scifi show that takes a lot of inspiration from the books. If you enjoy it for what it is, it's great. If you whine about minorities and women then you'll hate it.

I know I'm going to sound like a "books were better" boomer, but I have to vent.
>Gaal Dornick, arguably the most insignificant character from the books, turned into a she/her Mary Sue
>Seldon taunting Empire with "you don't propose anything fresh because of cloning" yet turns himself into a computer, literally putting himself in charge of the Foundation for centuries (even if covertly), can't he see the irony in that?
>same thing with Gaal, girl boss who's going to be there all the way
>the whole point of The Mule, an anomaly psychohistory CAN'T predict, made moot because somehow they see him coming from centuries away
At least Empire storyline is still decent to watch, I understand why they wouldn't want to change the top cast, but that just turns Foundation into a basic sci-fi story.

It wouldnt have to matter if they cared about the source, because for a long time, second foundation is in the backgrounds, we follow the story from "pov" of the (first) Foundation, and we sometimes get characters mentioning second foundation (what is it, is it a myth, does it exist, where is it) which is hiding in the shadows with only covert agents here and there.
We have them tricking Mule, tricking Arkady, tricking First Foundation, and thats about it.
I think it works better if theyre in shadows because they're basically telepaths, which is bullshit

What >>212959852 says is correct, it's like this show was assembled by different people who didn't communicate. A lot of the actors are fucking SHIT.
Gaal is a main char and is awful, so bad she drags down Jared Harris, a guy who normally shits out believable behaviour like he's been on the curry and guinness the night before.
But meanwhile you have Lee Pace dominating every scene he's in, elevating the Dusk and Dawn actors, every actor in fact (like his fiancee woman in S2) that shares a scene with him.
No way the same casting team did the whole show. The mutt actors in particular seem pretty bad, though Brother Constant and Hoobler or whatever the conman's name was were okay.

It’s kind of funny that assuming the show’s overarching plot will be similar to the books, the robots from I, Robot will have actually manipulated humanity into doing everything that happens in the show, including inventing psychohistory. And since the only time that series ever got any mainstream notoriety was that Will Smith action vehicle from the 2000s, it’s gonna be wacky when the series reaches its endgame. Imagine they find out the robot behind everything is this motherfucker.

Woke is cultural Marxism. Woke people believe that straight white males hold the means to cultural production and the proletariat (non whites and LGBT+@?/*) need to rise up and reclaim the means of cultural production. Basically anything that subverts white men and white culture is woke. That being said I don't really find foundation to be very woke despite the black women playing roles of people who weren't black or female in the book.

Poly Verisof is like 130 years old and looks around 60, Hari at what seems like a physical age of 60ish rides out another 100 years the hard way and only then seems to be actually on his last legs, but Empire gets dusted once he hits 80 years old. There's an actual age problem which is that the years are slightly off for Empire's age vs the number of clones.
>but Empire gets dusted once he hits 80 years old. What’s the deal?
This is literally explained in the show though. They get rid of Empire when he hits cognitive decline so that Cleon's guidance isn't affected by senility. It used to be 90. It's now earlier due to genetic drifting which has made his cognitive decline happen earlier. We haven't been told when he gets offed now yet but at a guess it's probably around 75.

The fleet destruction and attack on terminus happened with a contaminated cleon, and every major event that has followed was because they allowed a tainted dawn to change their genetic dynasty.

All of the bad cleons have happened after it. The most clever cleons were pre-taint

What I'm trying to explain is that his "lifespan" isn't normal as he's killed instead of dying naturally. He's never allowed to grow "old". It's the equivalent of killing an emperor today when they reach 60 so that the emperor is never an old man.

She eventually sees a vision that has the Mule in it. So the First Foundation doesn’t know shit about the Mule, the Second Foundation does.

Having never read the books, Foundation perfectly fulfills my hunger for modern scifi slop. Despite being full of niggers and obvious genderbends it has some great actors, pretty visuals and a story that is so boring that I forget enough of it to warrant a second monitor rewatch. It's interesting enough to make me come back every week for the cliffhangers but at the start of a season I've forgotten 90% of the previous one.
