I like Nathan Fillion a lot as an actor but the format they chose for the show is ass. It's actually about three different cadets including Fillion, the cases are mostly resolved by the end of the episode and some hackneyed lesson needs to be learned. A story about a middle-aged man working as a freshly-recruited cop is already plenty of material for a good funny show

Season 3 is unbearably full on progressive retardness, but the rest is a decent watch just to see how the writers and showrunners are getting around having to keep firing the black actors and then having to write in another black character to fill the void left behind. Same problem with the women keep getting pregnant and then the writers have to deal with that for a full season. You can also tell the writers are very well aware that the 2 most popular characters are also the 2 straight white men and they can't decide if the show should just devolve into being about their romantic lives or not. Like for the first few seasons, they kept throwing pussy at Nolan like he was contractually obligated to be fucking someone new every few episodes.
