Only if Light doesnโ€™t use Misaโ€™s eyes to see his real name, heโ€™d be a lot more direct than L imo and I do think heโ€™d be able to actually track him down since all of his first killings were in Japan in one town

All Light had to do was conceal that he was Kira.

L had to deduce who Kira was, how Kira killed, what Kira's motivation was, what accomplices (if any) Kira had, all the while trying to keep himself and his coworkers safe, minimizing public killings, trusting the right people, while keeping the right people in the dark about his plans, keep records of his thought process, set traps without letting the right people know about it.

Literally one slip up means failure and most likely death. Even after all of this, the only reason why he died was because he ultimately made the right decision that was going to conclude with Light getting caught and a shinigami had to interfere to stop him.

L is by far the smartest person in the whole show. Smarter than Light and Near by a mile. Him dying humanizes him.

Harrier Du Bois might struggle. Raphaรซl Ambrosius Costeau, however? He'd intuit the Death Note's mechanics after a three-day bender, mid-argument with his necktie, and solve the Kira case through a mixture of cryptic logic, primal screaming, and pure Inland Empire.

Columbo has god level intuition. He knows who the killer is instantaneously when he first meets them. So it's really just a question of, would Columbo meet Light? If we imagine that he's on vacation in Japan and gets called in for a favour by Light's dad, then yeah, he'd probably come across Light and immediately start the dimwit routine, stalking him relentlessly until Light admits to it. The twist in the story would be that you don't expect Columbo to know what the death note is but when Light tries to murder him at the end, nothing happens. And Columbo goes, "You really didn't think I'd let you write my name in the REAL Death Note, woudja, Mr. Yuhgammy... Just wanted to see if ya'd really try ta murdah me." Pulls the real one out of his coat pocket, Light's crying, fade to black.

Holy shit it's an annoying trend to see.

But Columbo is smart and isn't fodder from what I've heard. In a straight fight, he demolishes light completely.

The central gimmick of the show is that the killer is revealed in the opening scene. The show would be unwatchable if Columbo was blindly chasing red herrings and dead trails when the audience knows who really did it. The suspense of the show is that Columbo knows the killer did it and the killer knows Columbo knows they did it when they first meet and shake hands with each other. It's literally just the Light and L dynamic.

They aren't comic book villains anon.
Here's are some of the culprits for the first season:
>A mystery writer kills his colleague
>A PI who accidentally kills a woman, and then somehow ends up on the case
>A general who was embezzling funds kills his accomplice in order to try and avoid an investigation for embezzling funds
>an art critic murders his uncle and tries to frame his aunt so he can inherit his uncle's art collection.
Columbo really is kino though. Just watch the pilot(perscription murder). The format is basically ~30 minutes of a murder taking place before columbo even appears on camera.

Ultimately hubris. In most cases Columbo despite his (deliberately) irritating demeanor many of the killers find Columbo endearing, believing him to be merely a charming fool who gets lucky every now and then, not aware that he's often a few steps ahead of their cover. In others the killer tries their hardest to remove Columbo from the situation through legal means (generally going over his head to his chief/local government with hush money to pull him off the case) because they want to maintain the illusion of innocence. Really though it boils down to "it's a TV show and the bad guys can't do what real bad guys IRL do and also they can't kill Columbo because the show is over then"

It has its weak episodes like any show but it definitely meets the hype it's gotten from zoomers recently. Every episode is kind of like a mini movie so it's all pretty much standalone, you can kind of pick and choose the order you want to watch it in and won't need to worry much. Some people recommend the starting with the first 3 in order (the 3rd episode is directed by fucking Spielberg if that adds any interest) but it's really as simple as "pick an episode with a celeb you like in it" imo

Columbo isn't a detective who goes after gangbangers and what not. He goes after crimes commited by upper-class people who want to deal with the criminal investigation by other means. That said there have been several where the killer has tried to kill Columbo, like the guy who had dogs he tried to sic on Columbo.

Everyone always blabbers about muh Tokyo killings. Muh ego. Muh taking the bait.

How come no one ever points out that the minute L announced "if Kira kills me it must be Light" that that was essentially Light's best opportunity to go for it. Yoshikage is unironically the more difficult killer to catch. No body at all so how would you even detect a crime took place (minus the hands and freak ghost shit), can completely change his appearance one time, no insane ego or character faults outside his fetish, just wants a normal life with women's hands. Light has too much ego and self righteousness to be exploited, his only advantage is the extremity of range and specifications of his killings and he blows that cover the second he singles his local region out and L starts suspecting him. If L started investigating Yoshikage he would just kill him immediately and be done with it.

Kolchak would bumble into the case and give a fake name to the investigation team so he could get some info so he wouldn't end up getting killed. Then somehow at the end of the episode, Ryuk would give Light a heart attack and then fly away with the death note so he just looks like another mysterious heart attack victim and no one ever knows what was really going on.

Anime bullshit aside, I think any half-decent detective would finger Light once the government narrowed it down to somebody with a connection to the Tokyo police detective division, it's just a question of whether they'd set up some elaborate ruse to catch him with some kind of evidence, trick him in to confessing to some knowledge only Kira would have, or just blow his fucking head off without evidence because they're 100.00% certain it's the sus megalomaniacal boy genius.

No. Boots-on-ground police with no experience with the supernatural would not be able to solve it. In order to solve the Kira case you need access to international databases and the resources to send out manpower/surveillance/etc...

Some popular picks (including Columbo) wouldn't be able to solve the case unless they had already narrowed it down to Japan and were physically present as well. If we assume that L never did his Lind. L Taylor stunt very VERY few characters would be able to solve the case.
>>213005987

>Courage sneaks in later to check the book and reads every name aloud
>Suddenly Ryuuk says hello

>Courage's gums turn insideout while his fur splotches in white spots
>He runs back to Murial and Eustace
>ABABAH AABOOO
>Turns into a book while the pages ripple quickly
>BOO BLUH! BLUUOBULUBOUB
>Turns into an apple gettinig eaten by a death god
>BAHBAHBAH AAAWOoooo

He can't solve it in the traditional manner. Best he could do was have Light die a tragic death, but the Death Note ends up in the hands of the weird Asian guy.

>All light has to do is picture his masked face and write 'Batman' and he's dead.
Yes but he wouldn't, because nobody would actually expect Batman being his real name and Light would just waste time trying to figure out who he is under the mask and honestly, in a crossover story with the two he probably would find out he's Bruce Wayne just so that they could have that twist where it doesn't work.

The Winchester's would be OP. They have an actual angel that hangs around with them to see the shinigami, they have a revolving door afterlife if they're killed, all kind of plot maguffins and special items to help them, they're completely used to all magical dealings, have so many contacts in heaven/hell, they're armed to the teeth, the list goes on. They don't even give out their real names. This is just unfair to Light.

Columbo is a left-wing show, how Communist Commissars wish they could be themselves, about a public trial and humiliation of Aristocratic people, where it's revealed their courtesy, manner and friendly attitude is just the mask of a horrifying Psychopath, who is willing to kill you. It's not even a Detective show. It's a mock-up of a detective show, where the killer is revealed to the audience in the first scene. It mirrors the cheering and hollering of the dregs of society animated by Communist propaganda as they are judged to be enemies of the proletariat. After all they are class enemies and it's already certain they are guilty. Columbo is a working-class hero, who fights against evil rich people. It's a show, which can only exist in the context of a society still living off the benefits accumulated by tradition, but which is on the decline.

Desu, I don't see much leftism in a middle class detective catching arrogant snobs in the middle and upper-classes. There are other, subtle leftist themes though, like women cucking their older husbands and being portrayed as good people, with columbo liking them. And the only time columbo is actually rude to a murderer involves an unmasked former ss officer. Him and his partner go out of their way to gloat about it even. The show was definitely made by jews.
