What I find weird about this is the sheer hate I see for it online when someone brings it up. I wouldn't call it high art or anything but I don't get how there was anything to dislike so much that you still think about it all this time later, you know? All I remember is it being a somewhat entertaining early internet media thing. It's not like Hamilton where it was shilled fucking everywhere and treated like the second coming of Jesus Christ Superstar, where it makes some sense that you get some polarisation.

A certain section of people really hate Joss Whedon and Felicia Day, especially on 4chan
Anonymous No.213015974
>>213015920
I'm not even talking about 4chan, the last time I saw people talking about how horrible it is was on bluesky. The Whedon hate is definitely a contributing factor though. I've even seen people turning against Buffy The Vampire Slayer recently and trying to make it into one of the worst shows ever, all because of him. Shit's weird.

The songwriting in this is fantastic. The duet "My Eyes" with their lines wrapping around one another and ending on the same syllable sounds, is so impressive.

Why are gay dorks allowed to make cringe reddit musicals with poor production quality but Hallmark isn't allowed to make their movies?

Same. I thought it was just a gag when the Simpsons made fun of it when I was a kid. That was the first time I’d ever heard of the film. Come to find out it was a real movie as an adult. Mfw

I was taken aback by how badly some of the songs sidetracked the flow of the plot. I was expecting a more cohesive whole, based on the decades of praise. Now the tunes were all pretty good, with several true classics, and the choreography is uniformly great. It just seemed at times like the movie was an obligatory frame to deliver musical numbers. However, there were some shockingly transcendent moments of early postmodernism, which are what I think the film should be remembered longest for.

You mean Singin in the Rain or Yankee Doodle Dandy?
Anonymous No.213019920
>every single stage production has worse casting and shittier songs than the previous one
Bring back Blue you fucking pussies. And what the fuck are the dialogue changes? "Red Heather, the alpha bitch, would never be casually racist"
"Surely green heather needs a musical number that ruins her entire character arc's development because we don't get our own plot"
Fuck! The original cast recording is gonna end up as lost media at this rate. I'm not even right wing but you can illustrate the deleterious effects of PUSSIFYING your media just by watching the evolution of this one musical.

Singin. I went into it expecting a straightforward textbook song and dance picture, like a stage play on film. But the cinematography was incredible. I was especially not prepared for the acid trip visuals and meta comedy. What a gold mine.

Yeah the first time i saw it I used the same words β€œacid trip” too. It’s one of those movies you’d be foolish to just write off as corny and go your whole life and never see it.

Cabaret fucking sucked, the only good parts were the freaky little MC guy and his performances
Wilkommen, Money, Two Ladies were the only memorable songs and Wilkommen is the only objectively good one
all the real characters were ass and the other songs were too

is it only highly rated because it was an early gay movie? it's doodoo compared to basically every other broadway musical I've seen except for the Addams Family
Anonymous No.213021072
