If The Odyssey is as bad as many people on here suspect it will be, it's going to prompt a critical reassessment of all his work. He's Taika Waititi 2.0 waiting to happen.

You can't really make a movie version of The Odyssey, in order to adapt it to the format of a movie you are going to end up chopping and mashing it so much that it will be an expression of the writer and director's vision more than the actual Odyssey.
And this is Christopher Nolan so it's going to express what it's like to create a pretentious, bloated, and obvious version of The Odyssey. And nobody else ever wanted that.

Nolan has had a bulletproof career and Tenet only failed because of COVID because if not for that, people would've eaten it up. But he picked, easily, the last project he should tackle with his sensibilities. It's a disaster waiting to happen.

As an adaptation of the Odyssey it's going to be genuinely horrific but as a Christopher Nolan spectacle fantasy movie vaguely related to the Odyssey it might not be so bad.

Has Nolan even done any actual Fantasy before this?

The story development + ensemble (unless ppl like Zendaya are cut to a minimum only glamor shots) will expose him the most. did you see he threw that cave shot (great location scouting) and the dialogue scene in a cave as if lit with a candle? plebs eat up the visuals.

Nolan is the stupid moviegoer's idea of a smart director. Remember how everybody's mind was blown by Inception, despite its few interesting ideas being painfully spelled out in obnoxious detail? And it then basically doing magic and mumbo-jumbo with everything else. Like, it implies that all of humanity shares a collective unconscious, which is bonkers, but it just plunks that down on you and keeps moving on to show more Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

OK, so how does the mirror reflect something that it can't "see"? There's no path for the photons bouncing off the object to reach the mirror.

I really don’t get the praise for Nolan. Maybe it’s because he’s one of the few competent directors in a collapsing industry. He can make a good movie, not great, not a masterpiece, but good. Hans Zimmers scores elevate his movies but it’s all an illusion, at the end of the day his movies are still just “good” at best.
