Disney slop used to be good man. It's actually pretty ridiculous how a movie started by a THEME PARK RIDE ended up being a solid series of blockbusters with some interesting creative ideas (Davy Jones and his crew being fishmen with coral on their skin was 10/10 villain design)
It wasn't a reboot, not based off of any Grimm tale or other pre-written story, just a silly but original concept that delivered

POTC's approach to fantasy really is surprisingly smooth given how ridiculous it all looks when you step back. You just have the 'real' and grounded look of the British Royal Navy, 18th century Caribbean etc alongside fucking Octopus Head Devilman and his giant pet Kraken and somehow it blends in pretty smoothly, you don't question it and it doesn't look all that cartoonish (bonus for God tier CGI work)

All those giant real boats probably helped now that you mentioned it. They filmed tons of that stuff in real ships at sea iirc, which is apparently absurdly expensive and therefore uncommon. That must help ground the wackier stuff, though as you say the cgi was also top tier

Still something about the whole atmosphere just works. The director tapped into something

The world is becoming nothing but dollars and cents and optimization. Everything is given a value assignment and converted or plugged into an algorithm or math equation. Everything else is discarded and crushed under the wheels of efficiency. It’s a common theme. You see it in Lord of the Rings with the tension between technology and excessive order vs the beauty of the shire, the ents, the traditionalism of the monarchy, etc. You even see it in Casino with the mob losing Vegas to the big corporations.

James Baldwin on a random European village:
>"For this village, even were it incomparably more remote and incredibly more primitive, is the West, the West onto which I have been so strangely grafted. These people cannot be, from the point of view of power, strangers anywhere in the world; they have made the modern world, in effect, even if they do not know it. The most illiterate among them is related, in a way that I am not, to Dante, Shakespeare, Michelangelo, Aeschylus, Da Vinci, Rembrandt, and Racine; the cathedral at Chartres says something to them which it cannot say to me, as indeed would New York’s Empire State Building, should anyone here ever see it. Out of their hymns and dances come Beethoven and Bach. Go back a few centuries and they are in their full glory—but I am in Africa, watching the conquerors arrive."

>recognize reality and want to continue what your ancestors worked so hard for instead of handing over everything to brown hordes
No I sympathize with this entirely.

What I find disgusting is the idea that white people, as a whole, are just so far ahead of every other race that they look up at us in pure awe and jealousy, while we are just so gosh darned good-natured we don't even see any of that and are just nice to them even if they aren't to us.

Like get a fucking grip man. We are not innocent demigods. Other races have people who are better than you in any given way. We are very, very flawed, and varied, as all groups and people are.

If you want to make a claim that white countries are preferable to you and you want to preserve a white majority then just say that. That's a much more reasonable claim and desire.

When you say shit like the above you sound like jews droning on about how they're gods chosen people who are so smart and great and never did anything wrong and blah blah blah

No race on earth deserves to talk about themselves like this.

POTC 3's biggest problem is that they unironically tried to give the story and characters depth when it should have just been a light swashbuckling adventure.

Virtually nobody praises the plot of these movies, especially the third which was a contrived train wreck of fetch quests. Killing the Kraken off-screen was a mistake, they should have given it more screentime even if it meant letting the themes of the movie suffer.

What is the actual explanation for why CGI then looked a thousand time better than CGI now? Take the most recent Superman movie, all the action CGI shots (except maybe Terrific's fight scene) looked like they were from a PS3 game. Meanwhile this movie has possibly the most kino CGI ever and was actually from the PS3 era. Superman had a huge budget and computers have improved since then, and CGI is an evolving art so it can't be lack of experience.

it all quite literally comes down to the difference between hiring expensive western animators vs outsourcing to an indian vfx house where everything is done by 79 iq men who literally bought their diploma from an indian diploma farm.

I have spent all my professional life in a large western company that does everything it can to outsource stuff like coding and modeling work to india, and it's my experience that 80 indians will do the job of maybe 15 westerners, but to a much lower quality level, so that you'll need at least 5 westerners whoose entire job load is to quality control and repair the output from the Indian branch.
