>>213045286it's interesting that there's so much "content" but I feel the entire franchise basically lives and dies by those initial images of the bdsm freaks arriving and sending whoever to the pain dimension, with everything else just tagging along
I don't know if there's something to hellraiser beyond those almost entirely visual hooks (lol), maybe the hell dimension could be interesting to explore but it seems like it'd just be more torture stuff but in a weirder setting. the motivation for wanting to see the hellraiser guys is like an euphemism for seeking out more novel experiences and I dont understand if the audience is supposed to feel surprised that it never works out in the end. the guys who specifically tells you that they'll torture you gets there and puts hooks in you and there's this moment of epiphany where the guy goes "oh, this is bad actually" and I don't understand where the dramatic tension lies. it's not even a faustian bargain where you gain some mysterious power
I can't help but to think that the premise is not enough. in final destination there can always be a new kind of freak accident. there can always be a new torture device challenge in the saw series. in hellraiser someone has to spin the wheel of pain and then they're torture killed. there's no escalation and weirdly enough very little mystery
