why is science-fiction well respected as a genre in film but in literature it's considered garbage and not taken seriously?

because there isn't sci fi on the level of Joyce or Dostoyevsky, Anon.

I mean, I fucking love God Emperor of Dune but the prose is fucking wretched. Lots of the top sci fis have awesome ideas and are absolutely constipated

I haven't made it that far, I've only read the first three. And I always say that the Dune books are bad stories badly written lol. They did what they could to make DUNC passable though.

I wouldn't really say it is anymore. It's basically fantasy and akin to braindead superhero slop now. It used to at least try to be intelligent in some manner, and present interesting ideas to think about. Now it's degenerated to be as dumb as possible. And JJ Abrams helped make that happen. Destroyed Star Trek and Star Wars. It's all just flashy pew pew laser shit but IN SPACE! which doesn't automaticslly make it scifi or good

I get what you mean but as this guy said >>213049007 it really is not, there was a moment it was trendy but that was about it.
It is easier to just jump into a scifi movie from the start, like blade runner where they just describe the future, the atmosphere and the setting of the movie in a couple of sentences in the beginning and then the movie starts. People enjoy watching scifi more because you can see all the futuristic features right away compared to reading when you have to read the characters feelings, thoughts, and then when something happens a whole page describing the "science"
>Then the protagonist loaded his sigma mechanzo cyber lazer quantum canon with his lawrencium filled mega bullets coated with francium-carbon alloy and shot at the antagonist which deflected the bullets with his cyber lazer black hole gravity shield.

Oh and most scifi books are just dogshit
