There was literally no story to finish and that was the problem. The whole thing had gone so far off the rails to the point that nothing mattered and it wasn't worth caring about. There writers were so caught up in their own double non reality reality twists it was like srsly who gives a fuck anymore. Nothing's real and nothing matters just cancel it and put it out if it's misery.

Loved the first season. Second season wasn't as good overall but had some great moments. Third season was like a totally different show, couldn't even finish it, never even tried the fourth season which was apparently so bad that HBO won't even air it. Wish I knew what changed between seasons behind the scenes to make it so awful.

For fucks sake you guys are dumb. The first season was an exploration of consciousness and echoed the musings of Julian Jaynes, the origin of consciousness in the breakdown of the bicameral mind. Dolores had meetings with Arnold, who was a speaker of her thoughts to her. It ends with her realizing this speaker was herself. The first season was philosophical and used Westworld as a universe to explore this question so that more than a small niche of autistic people like me would watch it. And yet you still don't get it. This is why later seasons fell flat btw, because they abandoned allegories for deep philosophical questions for bottom of the barrel entertainment to explore shallow philosophical questions.
