I know it's been a while since I've posted, but I've been really busy IRL. the Central Europe chart is still in the works. I'm listening to GET UP WITH IT and mid-70s Miles really sounds like bargain bin Bohren. This guy is really acclaimed for playing in different styles but uuuuuuhhh shouldn't they be GOOD??? This guy is the definition of master of none... Once again I compare him unfavourably to the Tranedawg, who did ONE thing over and over and over and over again to the point that it became incredibly esoteric, specialised, refined, austere and transcendent. Dare I say the Bresson of jazz?
>>213078252Ah, a question that I can answer. I would feel like a schizo replying to my own QOTD.
Sloop John B, the rendition of Aren't You Glad off the Live on London album (where Mikeypoo does a cringe 40 seconds of comedy crowdwork before launching into the song lol) because the production on Wild Honey doesn't help it pop, We'll Run Away, In the Back of My Mind, and Be True to Your School.
I'm more of a Dennyfag these days though. I listen to Pacific Ocean Blue more than any Beach Boys album.
In addendum I want to note that the people on this board outside of this thread are - SERIOUSLY - inane babblers and peddlers of nitwitism. I am reminded of this every time I step outside the gates of /flimflam/.

>>213077390I care but it better not just be stuff you can find on TSPDT or you will have wasted your time
>>213082181This is the sort of idea I had in mind when I posited the question.
Michael Fassbender embodied the -ness of Steve Jobs better than Ashton Kutcher did, who looked like, sounded like, and recreated the mannerisms more faithfully, but just came off as a hollow imitator rather than an embodier. From what I have seen (won't watch the full movie, can't pay me), Timmy's Dylan is a LARP session and there doesn't seem to be any Bobness about him.
I guess for me it is more about that "-ness", which exists culturally, and may or may not be what the person actually acted like. Fassy embodied Jungness as we understand it as people who have never met the man and only have some TV interviews of him as footage.
I like Faye and Warren as Bonnie and Clyde - it rings true. Perhaps biopics are better served by actors NOT having material to ape? They become more spiritually aligned with the character by virtue of having no possible way to just take the easy way out and LARP.
>>213079284Now I have thanks to u. I like it. I like all Sloops. It's my fav song to sing a capella at night when I'm bored and walking home from somewhere, likely drunk. >>213082788>Timmy's Dylan is a LARP session and there doesn't seem to be any Bobness about him.I saw it last Christmas as a gift to my Grandpa (he's a Boomer from MN and loves Bob Dylan), and I will say that Timmy's performance as Dylan was very surprising and impressive. It wasn't a larp session at all, and the movie was far more concerned with the essence of Dylan as an artist and creator in his early years than it was with his background or real life. It focuses more on his creative process and how he alienated himself from the folk music scene (and women) as a result of his creative and artistic spirit dominating his life.
It also gets across the troll elements of him, which I found to be a surprising and good angle.

>>213082788>Am I really so autistic and recognisable despite abandoning Charlotte avatarfagging for good some weeks past?Yes.
just watched this on my continued trip around the world. while the content itself was rather interesting, they really got the absolute WORST narrator possible to relay all the information. I would have much rather the film be completely silent than have to listen to that monotone voice drone on and on. some of the shots looked rather good, especially given the circumstances in which I assume this was filmed (just being dropped in with these people and living with them for a time). those scenes hunting the giraffe were both beautiful and haunting at the same time. all in all, I'd say it's a 5/10, mainly because of the narrator. would have been much better if they were able to just record sound on site and had no narration.
sidenote: what the fuck is up with these people's body shape? I get that their arms and legs are so skinny because they barely eat, but why the hell are their stomachs so fucking weird looking?

>Martin Scorsese gives a lesson in reading pop culture through his defense of Ari Asterโs Eddington, an apocalyptic satire about post-Covid America. Speaking to the New York Times, Scorsese inadvertently nails whatโs wrong with this frantic political spasm.
>Scorsese implies that Covid left Americans aggrieved, exclaiming that the film โexternalizes the emotional violenceโ thatโs behind the physical brutality, yet he never specifies how the Covid-apocalypse intensified the political enmity that had already descended upon the country (via the duplicity of Anthony Fauci and Deborah Birx in Operation Warp Speed). Fact is, Eddington inadequately accounts for the tyranny that Americans felt during Covid, enforced by one political side and suffered by the other, that pushed countless fragile sensibilities over the edge.
>Fanboy Scorsese must know that a truly expressive, culturally reflective film is never merely topical. (Were that the case, Scorseseโs own crazy, Aster-esque grand guignol Shutter Island would be the ultimate World War II satire.) Eddington depicts the Covid experience through broad topical indices. Many recognizable details of posters, bumper stickers, cellphones, social media obsession, and partisan mindsets recreate a panicky atmosphere, pointing to it as the source of social division. A constant background noise of media commentary conveys an unconscious psychic influence (something Zack Snyder did better in Man of Steel). Yet by avoiding 2020โs questionable election, Aster gets the essential national betrayal disastrously wrong.
>>213085555checkem
>According to Scorsese, Aster โdives right into the side of American life that many people canโt bear to look at or even acknowledge โ no one wants to listen to anyone else, which is frightening.โ Such soft-headed thinking could also be applied to Killers of the Flower Moon, Scorseseโs own shaming of Americaโs social rot and systemic racism. That was Scorseseโs first politically pointed movie, conceived during Covidโs national insecurity. But Eddington is equally out of touch; itโs just another overblown Aster horror show (Beau Is Afraid, Part 2) and, because of its violent excess, of little significance. Eddington is so solemnly goofy that its vision of polarized America might as well not be a satire. Scorseseโs praise sounds significant, but by leaving out the word โexploitation,โ itโs his political cop-out.>Desperate to continue authoritarian argument, they misrepresent Eddington as a grand summing-up of the era on the level of Felliniโs La Dolce Vita or Godardโs Weekend. (Consider Eddington an A24 version of what Francis Coppola flubbed in Megalopolis.) They all bypass the genuine expression of polarization captured in S. Craig Zahlerโs Dragged Across Concrete or Radu Judeโs Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World, failing to see that Aster is a hysteric, not a rationalist or aesthetic moralist like Godard. The miscommunication that Scorseseโs blurb refers to as the essence of our crise is the product of both political tragedy and B-movie sensationalism.

That fossil could die any second. He might die right as i'm writing this and it won't even be some crazy surprising coincidence, just the fact that he is that ancient.
RIP Bruce Lee
RIP Yusaku Matsuda

No one's even announced a bake. I'm about to go fap for the next hour so don't count on me.

i would have expected more yropoors on here
>>213100942Too early for them, they'll start showing up in a little over an hour.

>>213100966>>213101008They'll show up yet the thread will still be dead by 5am EST
>>213089553A /film/ normie recently bluntly asked me what my top 3 was, right here in this thread. I was taken aback. But replied more or less honestly, and the conversation turned out for the better.
The eternal Dano edition chugs on.
>eternal Brian Wilson edition
Looks like I got my wish after all.
Seriously though, what the fuck mods?
What the fuck happened?
Is janny on crack?
>>213102542>>213102546WE'RE NOT LEAVING THIS FUCKING THREAD UNTIL WE GET THAT FUCKING EFFORTPOST WE'RE WAITING FOR
>>213102573My Tsai Ming-liang / Drake shitpost with which i also baked a new thread was an effort post. But the tranny janny got high on HRT or something and literally just nuked random posts and that thread.
Opinions on Alan Rudolph? I saw Remember My Name almost randomly and it was a meh, routine thriller about obsession. But I decided to give him another chance and recently was very impressed by The Moderns (1988). Altman's influence and mentorship are unmistakable here, but the film doesn't go into full naturalistic imitation and stays true to its own clever artificiality. It very much feels like a New Hollywood, F for Fake inspired film that somehow got lost and surfaced in 1988. Excellent.
Now I'm wondering what else I should check out from Rudolph, anyone have any suggestions? I read somewhere Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle is a continuation of sort of The Moderns and it's already on my watchlist, but what else?
>>213102573>we're gonna be here until 11:59pm sunday night
It appears Kinskifag got got again, looking back in the thread all of his posts were nuked, also my post with the picture of the fat guy from Children of Bodom.
>>213102677>Altman's influence and mentorship are unmistakable hereShan't be watching it then.

>>213102786>>213102815I was just about to point that out:
>261 posts>443 on the archive41% of the thread has been nuked at this point. Everyone that has posted anything has had something deleted, and this isn't even the clusterfuck of a thread from yesterday.
Let this incident be a warning to 'fu'nnies.
>>213102546Seconding. What the fuck did I miss?
>>213103031I didn't get banned for making the new thread or anything, I think a mod had a stroke or something.
Please make the next bake the same as the one that got nuked cause it didn't even get a fucking chance.
>>213103031https://archive.4plebs.org/tv/thread/213100864/#213102022
'doncuck evading bans and dumping his crap made moddie see red i guess
>>213103104What the fuck my new thread had to do with this tho?? Why tf did it get nuked?
I spend here almost every day and I honestly still can't tell who is some new flavour of the month schizo and who's not, and you autists somehow differentiate between them. Either way, those fags need to put on a fucking trip so I could filter them out.
Just want to point out none of my posts have been deleted.
>>213103124>I spend here almost every day and I honestly still can't tell who is some new flavour of the month schizo and who's notSkill issue.
>>213103136Unverifiable claim.
>>213103104Why did tranny mods only delete Gadonfag's post and the OP though? He obviously didn't make the thread.
Shame on them for killing a great thread 15 posts in.
When mods delete an /alt/ bake because the other /film/ thread is still alive
>Mods = GODS
>TOTAL CHARLOTTE VICTORY
When mods delete a recent 'fu'nny bake because the other /film/ thread is still alive

Curious...
>>213103334/alt/ is something created purely out of spite. Bootleg /film/, if you will.
>>213103124>I honestly still can't tell who is some new flavour of the month schizo and who's notNo one can. I'm constantly accused of being different namefags. The regulars here have literal schizophrenia. Sad.

>>213103528Bro wanted a separate group chat outside the main one and everyone still posted in it anyways.
>>213103358Unlike 'fu'nnies, anons don't bitch and whine about /alt/ deletion, instead we fondly reminiscence the daring, Icarian attempt. We openly admit mods were in the right, you kick and scream like children.

>>213092822Well actually the standard academy ratio since 1932 is 1.375:1, while 4:3 is 1.33:1 and would only gain popularity in the VHS/DVD era when televisions adopted 4:3.
>>213102677I was excited to watch Remember My Name because of the cast but it was boring and shitty. I feel like the idea was interesting but the execution insisted on itself. It put me off from the rest of his movies
Don't do the right thing just yet. Stop doing the wrong thing first, that's a lot easier and since know what it is.

>>213088030Yes believe it or not. It was pretty good. I liked how it wasn't complete misery porn, self hating shit like other Japanese war films.
>>213104168I checked it out last year because I finished EVA and read that Anno based the combat scenes between NERV and the UN in EoE off that movie and ripped several scenes from it.
It got me down the Toho war movie rabbithole which is a fun one akin to American or British epic war movies from that same time.

>>213104712>how many people walk out during your session?None given there were only a handful of people there and some of them were critics (I sat next to a local critic), but I largely chalk that up to the fact that I went to a screening that did not have the wagie walk out and talk to the screen.
The laughs were off the wall when picrel came on screen though.
