>>213090679His vision of the future is fucking brilliant. I can understand why he is a celebrated author, but it's not for me.
His world that he created is so crystal clear in his mind that he goes through long passages talking about tech that doesn't exist and doesn't hold your hand. It's up to the audience to figure out what the fuck he's talking about, how the gadgets work, etc. And there is logic behind all of it so if you can pick up what he's putting down, I'd imagine it is super worthwhile. That said, I really didn't care about the tech so much that I wanted to spend time deciphering what it all meant. I thought maybe if I just stuck with it, it would eventually click like the slang language used in Clockwork Orange, but I read Neuromancer from cover to cover and at the climactic end of *SOMETHING* happening, I thought to myself "what the FUCK did I just read"?
I literally couldn't give you a synopsis, and most of the time I felt like reading was something to endure.
Again, he's briiilant and I totally understand why people might love him. It's just not something that clicks with me personally.
(He also created a version of a military flight jacket that was so popular and vividly described that people kept asking for it and eventually companies started making it to fulfill demand).
