Many films can only be enjoyed with the adjunctive effect or alcohol.
>OFTR
A good pinot noir, an islay, a gin martini, bloody mary, the list goes on
>>213290073 (OP)>QOTDMy sole intoxicated movie experience was when I was going through jozuints (Ozu joints). I stole a little bottle of sake from a local liquor store so I could match my sips with the sips in jozuints. It was fun but I don't remember getting drunk despite matching the sips. Dishonest cinema.
>One for the RoadI guess the one sake that was available. Used to be a whisky guy but haven't had in alcohol for years for a lack of interest. Buffalo Trace and Bowmore 12 Single Malt are the ones I can remember enjoying.

>>213290967Dangerously based.

Jesus Christ what a piece of shit. An abysmal combo of an aging star vehicle and a maudlin melodrama. Made by an Israeli Jew and - of course - showered with awards. Cases of bad writing and bad acting can be tolerated because they are relatively common, but incompetent editing is rare, and when it enters the mix the film becomes not just passively annoying but actively frustrating and offensive - my main criterion for the "worst of all time" category. Second worst film I saw this year.
>>213293696Sean Baker says it's good so it must be good
Recommend me some flicks that aren't necessarily about the 'end of the world' in a literal sense, but that have major apocalyptic vibes. Can be minimalistic slow cinema stuff or big climatic spectacles like Apocalypse (lol) Now or Come and See.

Alfred Hitchcock was a fat, autistic drunk. His films were glued together around a laughably simple script (Hitchcock barely knew the basics of screenwriting) about some blonde bitch along with some pretentious mysteries and camera wankery. He would hardly have become popular had he not had a constant horde of competent filmmakers sucking him off and fixing the films for release. Hitchcock's only way to deal with his obesity was to make jokes about his excessive eating because he simply could not admit that he had problems with his lifestyle. In the end, the only merit of "Britain's greatest filmmaker" is how many films about blondes and mysteries he was able to write.
In my job itโs a torment not to be physically nimble. To have to drag a great heavy body around with one is dreadfully unpleasant physically.
Iโve often thought how Hitchcock must suffer from it. Much of Hitchcockโs limitations, I think, but also his greatness within them, are to be found in his heavy body. His way of always working in the studio, using a static camera, not moving about, he has erected it all into a system, using long scenes where he wonโt have to give himself the trouble to move about.
just watched this, I wonder what Americans think about this particular movie. Such a violent country.

>>213295891>>213295932>>213296031>>213296200>>213296382Alfred Hitchcock used to be a real artist, a twisted genius who knew how to play with fear like a magician. His early films were full of shadows and silence, the kind of terror that sneaks in and messes with your head. Then he got invited to America, where the real power was waiting, the Hollywood Jews. They didnโt just produce his movies, they took his mind apart piece by piece. These guys knew how to turn art into product and fear into anxiety you could package and sell.
Slowly but surely, Hitchcockโs films lost that dark soul. The Jewish producers rewrote his scripts, recast his stories, and injected their own neurotic poison. Rebecca was no longer a ghost story, it was a social event for their circles. Spellbound became a Freud carnival, Rope a cheap philosophy lesson tailored for the synagogue crowd. By the time Vertigo rolled around, Hitchcock wasnโt directing anymore. He was just a puppet showing his handlersโ twisted fantasies about control and obsession.
He didnโt fight it. He embraced it, fat and happy, stuffing himself while his films turned into therapy sessions paid for by the very people who strangled his creativity. The Birds became a silent scream against his own loss of control, like nature itself refusing to play along. Marnie was less a film than a confession booth for his failed control fetish. Hollywoodโs Jewish overlords didnโt just change Hitchcockโs movies, they castrated his soul. And he thanked them for it.
A typical Englishman, selling his soul to American Jews. Many such cases.

>>213322876Yes? He's not referring to the West in a purely geographical sense (otherwise Neruda or Borges wouldn't be there). Tolstoy's style, like most Russian lit of the time, was primarily informed by French culture and literary conventions. He was such a simp for the Cinquiรจme Rรฉpublique that sizable sections of War & Peace were written in untranslated French.

On the topic of adaptation, I would like to say more. The claim to artistic validity of most literary adaptations rests on their hand-me-down affiliation to high literary culture. They are the purview of a middle-class audience who think that high culture can rub off on them just by second-hand proximity to it in the form of a two hour film. This is of course why we call the bulk of these films "wine aunt movies" colloquially.
Watching the Shakespeare adaptations of Akira Kurosawa will only bring you closer to Kurosawa, not The Bard. This is not a bad thing as Kurosawa is himself at the pinnacle of narrative filmmaking. However, don't think you know Shakespeare because you watched Throne of Blood, even though you should really watch Throne of Blood, because it's great. Just remember that the author of a film is not the one who died hundreds of years before it was made.
I have not yet seen God Roman's Macbeth yet but I have heard from his afficionados that it is a great window into Roman's mindset after the death of his wife and son. Again, it seems that watching the adaptation will tell you more about Roman than Shakespeare.
>>213323263You're right, let's not start this again. Quebec is latam btw.
>>213323418>The claim to artistic validity of most literary adaptations rests on their hand-me-down affiliation to high literary culture. Every film has artistic validity as cinema is art.
