the most insane lore about this scene is that Coppola actually somehow wanted it to be an AI Adam Driver program that would respond to unique questions in the middle of the film and this was just the compromise

Who could have possibly thought that outsourcing movie dialogue to theatre staff was a good idea? Why not just have a voice line in the film? Let me guess, turning on the house lights and having someone talk at the screen is supposed to somehow enhance the thematic experience? Who was responsible for this?

I went to see it like middle of the day on a tuesday because I got a free ticket from some site called atom tickets. I was the only one in the theater. As this scene begins a teenage hispanic theater employee walks in, holding up his phone to the screen while it plays the song "nasty nasty" by lil boosie. He then crip walks out of the theater as driver's character gives his response.

All it took for me was some anon comparing Megalopolis akin to Neil Breen on a roid big budget and I was sold, no theaters near me screened the film, if they had, I would. So besides the web.ms and ramblings here, I've yet to see this film. Read no reviews, viewed no yt clips, nothing. I don't wanna torrent it, I wanna watch it on my 20" flat screen alone with a bottle of merlot, my kitty cat, and the option to smoke three cigarettes for the three acts, fucking a man, why was this DVD not sold in stores.

Was it too based for mass consumption, with all that has happened afterwards, I should think so

Yeah, I realized this after the 3-5 release day delays. Is there any reason for why this is?

The imported dvd, as I understand it, won't play on my rinky dink DVD player. You can buy Terrifier 3 on the release date, smile on the release date, how the hell does something like this happen, where a name director isn't stocked in Wal-Mart. What the hell did he do?

Coppola doesnโ€™t want the film to be released physically because he wants it to only be seen in theaters. Iโ€™m not sure why thereโ€™s physical versions in other countries. Maybe he doesnโ€™t have control of the distribution there. Iโ€™ve heard that you can watch it on a plane though.

Well, Megalopolis didn't show in theaters in my town or the nearest city. Theoretically, if I wanted to see it I'd have to travel 2 hours and 34 minutes, and find a place to park in an area that charges something like 20-25 bucks to park, then find a hotel or drive back after the ending. No way I was doing any of that. Guess I'll wait for the North American DVD release, if that ever happens, shit, I'd love to talk and bullshit about this film if I ever fuggin see it. Again, I'm definitely not torrenting it, I'd prefer the comfort of my home when viewing so I can enjoy my cigs and a '94 bottle of Merlot, fancy that

I think it was the best movie of 2024. Not because it was a perfect movie but because it was great to see such an experimental movie of ideas. Also it filtered like 90% of the population. It's like Southland Tales. It's a Rorschach Test. It's also best viewed in chunks instead of straight through. It's a lot to take in. Should have been a premium cable miniseries instead of a theatrical film. I love it.

No. I guess they cut that scene out. Though the place was almost empty and some bitch kept laughing throughout. It's a shame that FFC spent over forty years re-writing that. First hour was all over the place, second hour was better. Despite the effects, it was not as epic as he wanted it to be. As much as people shit on Charlie Rose, he was right to challenge FFC on his 'head in the clouds' ideas that he didn't succeed with after 1979.

and how did that turn out?

>After a series of underperforming productions, in 2019 Ellison had grown secluded from Hollywood, leaving Annapurna to be mostly run by Nathan Gary, who led Annapurna Interactive before being promoted to president.

Despite his 70s kino, it seems that FFC got very lucky.
>Won the Oscar for his Patton screenplay despite being fired and then un-fired.
>The Godfather fell into his lap, adapted a great screenplay with Mario, and almost got fired.
>It won all the Oscars, so he was given complete freedom to make another masterpiece with Part II (though he wanted Scorsese to direct it). More Oscars.
>The Conversation was a success. That was the only type of film that FFC really wanted to make - writing, producing and directing his own material.
>Apocalypse Now fell into his lap because none of his producer/director friends wanted to do it. The off-screen problems that film had are legendary.
>The he mostly made films that he wanted to make, which nobody cared about. Spread himself too thin with Zoetrope, and his winery.
>His 80s film failures put him in the hole financially. Forcing him to do Godfather III.
>Part III does have some good ideas/parts, but is considered a disappointment compared to the first two. Losing Duvall over money was bad.
>If he had to make Megalopolis, he should have done it before 9/11 delayed it another 20+ years.

As I understand it, that crazy Michael Cimino ruined UA with Heaven's Gate.
FFC and Marty said the same.

the executives who were supposed to be controlling Cimino are to blame
and it wasnt box office trouble what sunk UA (they had a megahit with Moonraker the year before), Transamerica had a bad year, wanted no problem with their stock value and sold UA as quickly as it could
