I would have liked the movie if it was just more of James and Spike surviving the wild, but that wouldn't be anything worth talking about. But I will not forget the commentary on life, death, and love that it instead tries to tell. Kelson's scenes are where the movie does what it really wants, and I think it works brilliantly as three parts, marked ditinctly by the three times Spike sleeps:
