Alright, what's the consensus on the story here?
Eisenhorn?
spesh muhrines?
sisters (and misters) of battle?
>somehow the Emperor has returned
Warhammer is for faggots.
There is no consensus on the story because there is no consistent story. Wh40k is a sprawling mess of autism from "authors" and game desigers who all operate under their own idea of canon, often ignoring and even outright contradicting each other.
There is no way to make the maladjusted fans of this series happy because they all have their own little pet stories and factions and they will bitch when they aren't what gets adapted.
The whole thing is a fool's errand, and Cavill is a fool.
>>213299358 (OP)who cares, we all know you're gonna be butthurt when the inevitable adaptation finally comes out
>>213299509wondering if a 'story of the week' vibe would work for it. each episode a self contained story, or a moment in a different place but within the same overarching storyline. dipping between various parts of the imperium/xenos and vibes. action, espionage and ecclesiarchy fuckery going on per episode. all ends up culiminating towards the same place and the final few episodes it all comes together.
i guess the tonal shifts would be jarring, and appealing. and I'm retarded.
>>213299509well if the series is good it can become the canon and unite the autists
>>213299358 (OP)I'm going to refuse to watch it unless it has chaos space marines or dark eldar torturing civilians.

MUH HECKIN MYTH AURA! ITS ALL RUINED NOW! WHY NOT MAKE SMALL STORIES ABOUT RANDOM CHARACTERS INSTEAD???"
>>213302535>ignores the stories where the marines get battered and bugs rip everyone apart and move on to the next planet
>>213299358 (OP)X Files-like series with a team of inquisitors investigating a new heresy every week.
is this stupid as a premice:
perhaps they could focus it on a new imperial guard "recruit". all the training, ways of living, world lore from his perspective as taught by the ecclesiarchy. witness a space marine in passing as a real bigmoment (since majority of them never see it). final episode the main guardsman character dies, and you see a space marine dealing with shit easily as the protagnist dies.
now that I've re-read that, just sounds like Attack on Titan in space ffs
>>213299358 (OP)>Alright, what's the consensus on the story here?marvel, but 40k

>>213303087Because "general audiences" might not give a shit about colorful robots fighting colorful robots with spikes.
>>213299358 (OP)I want to see the whole inquisitor cycle but would be happy with a good Xenos adaptation.
>>213302638That's equally trite. Who the fuck wants to see the same aliens eat people for the 1000th time? The epic super lore filled universe of warhammer 40k has the imperium fight the same five dudes on every planet.
>>213303455Nah some stories are murder mysteries where a shapeshifting demon is killing and ascending through the ranks of a local population to get the chance to snatch a big time politician. Some books are just oily dudes slapping asses like a gachimuchi vid. Some stories are kids growing up in a convent of knights who hunt monsters.
>>213299782/tv/ hates the episodic format, they absolutely seethed when the Mandolorian was making comfy space cowboy self contained stories because we werenโt getting le heckin baby sneed lore

>>213299358 (OP)I think the best way to "sell" 40k to the general public would be to make a 1:1 live action copy of the Astartes video.
It's the best cold opener to people who don't know anything about the 40k universe.
Just a 12min set piece with no dialogue, just visual storytelling and setting the tone of the world people are about to dive into.
That video was better than anything Games Workshop has ever made in terms of being able to appeal to people who don't know and/or care about 40k.
It's such a vast universe with different directions you could go with stories, but a 1:1 live action remake of Astartes would be the absolute perfect way to start it all off.
>>213311979In general, even as someone who isn't into Imperial Guard stuff and doesn't think it makes sense to adapt it from an IG perspective, I really think that Gaunt's Ghosts is slept on. Literally every book in the series felt unique and part of this immersively tangible stretch of time, which you can only really do with baseline human characters.
My second favourite is easily Fabius Bile. Do yourself a favour and read that trilogy in or after being in some sort of abandoned industrial building, or ride the subway in a big city at rush hour. It has atmosphere and character that influences how I read any 40k, totally sells the tragedy of chaos space marines, and Bile's character is great

>>213316764That's a huge stretch.
Warhammer 40k is a dead-end as a story vechile.
It suffers pretty much the same as H.P. Lovecraft, the world is just not interesting and no suprises left. Its highly formulaic with easily predictable predicaments.
My biggest problem with the setting is that its not so 'grim' or even 'dark'. There is no true evil in the hearts of men, and since every wrong is intolerated it makes the world sterile. It was all a chaos trick or corruption or whatever.
t. screenwriter
>>213299358 (OP)All anyone on /tv/ as to say about an adaptation like this is making up problems or painting it as impossible, or just meandering into politics. It's not impossible. It just takes the main ingredient of storytelling. Vision. Call it creativity, call it the sum of knowledge, but it's a real thing and it's the lack of it makes you invent problems. If you want a real problem, talk about the self-defeating ideas and general dysfunction in the places that fund these projects. That's a problem. The actual thing itself is doable and marketable, and that does not rely on some twitterbrained idea of what's popular or 'where things are going'. Say it takes five more years- not a problem. Say it was done five years ago- perfect. This shit is only subject to the shallow strata of the zeitgest when it's either kind of bad, highly politicized, or both. Whoever told you that the real deal doesn't sell is just trying to sell you shit.
>protags are sexless warrior monks with only personalities ranging from stoic, nice to civilians, and outright psychotic
The story can bounce back and forth between three different human factions fighting on the same planet in nearby warzones. Have a guardsmen spotter squad signalling killzones for artillery and tanks barely surviving. Have Sisters of Battle charging enemy lines like the fanatics they are while deep behind enemy lines Astartes are hot dropping in their drop pods slaughtering every heretic or alien in sight. Maybe have some layers of different enemies in the ranks. A veteran CSM or Daemon shows up to give every cast trouble. Have the Guard, Sisters, and Space Marines see each other through binoculars while coordinating across the battlefield. Make it feel like a war is going on with many moving parts. Making it about boring space politics using a pantheon of armored giants will not work. Women and low test men need to watch it too to keep the funding going.

There's no way you're going to adapt this to live action without it being a clownshow full of so many compromises that it bears little resemblance to the source material.

What about when they're in a scene with normal humans?
Not to mention your sets need to be massive and opulent, or green-screened in desktop 40k wallpaper.

>>213323892>thousands of big armored conquerors going around bullying cultures of humans to join them>their leaders are giants so freaky and mentally unstable they act more like the Addams family than functioning commandersThat's exactly how the Interex describe Horus and the Great Crusade, they point out that his title is Warmaster and that they were entirely justified in being wary of them at the very least. But yeah this was before the HH started so Horus wasn't unstable yet, that happens later, when he starts to believe that his father, who he believes is the greatest person who ever lived, has abandoned him and is planning to dispose of him. The absurdity here is not an argument against, but for Primarchs and Space Marines being the central characters, in my eyes. You have iterators and remembrancers like Kyril Sinderman(Loken's mentor), Ignace Karkasy(the dissident poet that Loken protects) and Euphrati Keeler(the lady who records Loken's anecdotes), and they're all great characters that you'd obviously use fully. You even see the imperial cult take root on the vengeful spirit and they have a saint.

Then you got your battles and such; see SM getting blasted to pieces and shit... then you introduce the IG - just normal humans in all this mess and they have it even worse.
t. screenwriter
>>213325180your argument is stupid because 1. Custodes use genetic material from the Emperor in place of a primarch and so it makes sense for them to be male so that they can use the data in the Emperor's Y chromosome
2. The fucking Y chromosome contains most the important alleles for a fucking super soldier regardless
3. Women with two copies of the X chromosome can often not express desirable genes because one copy of the chromosome cancels out the other. That would be extremely undesirable when you are trying to genetically alter a human.
4. You don't want superhumans breeding because that takes their production out of the hands of the state/emperor etc.
All these reasons equally pertain to space marines, it is and always will be retarded to think they should be female.
>>213325428>You can have a fish out of water story of a dude who is implanted with the geneseedNot with the Ultramarines.
>>213324816I dont get why women couldn't just appreciate more and be satisfied with just the adepta sororitas
In a way, they are even better than marines, because marines are all transhumans, genetically tweaked to be like they are, whereas sisters are just humans that have achieved the peak of human capacity through hard effort which is a nice fantasy when you remember how women tend to do IRL in the army
They could literally boast that while men are superhuman in the setting, women can also pull some superhuman feats too with just effort and faith, instead of genetical modifications
TL;DR:
>marines are like superman and sisters are like batman
>>213325300I think that fight should stay vague. I imagine it was Horus being marched toward a fight with the Emperor by his chaos juice and tries to fight him, Big E says I'm a bad bitch you can't kill me and almost smokes him with a fraction of his psychic power as a means to try to control the situation, but the dark powers basically make Horus too angry to die at the last moment and some confusion involving Sanguinius ultimately leads to him getting insta'd by Big Chaos and Big E getting wheelchaired
>>213325287Custodes are made by taking infants and genetically modifying them into super-warriors. They still need to train but they are completely different from Space Marines, who have built-in systems to replenish their numbers with geneseeds. Custodes are essentially handcrafted and it takes way more resource to make one than it takes to make a SM, so it's not feasible for the Imperium to mass produce them.

>>213325300idk why they made that fight so over the top in the books, because personally, I think this final showdown is at its very core, a confrontation between an estranged son and his distant authoritarian father; a turning point where both of them realize how far they fucked up by not being more close or solving their issues earlier
and you can bet that kind of shit would resonate way more with the audience at an emotional level because of how common that problem is
