If you use prosthetics like that (not) alien movie then just about any good actor can play him. The issue would be figuring out ways to cut the scenes so that he maintains a type of unsettling mystique through to the end. This always struck me as a book which should be adapted with a heavy mix of expressionist scenes like filming a stage play on location and only pulling off the stage to move to acknowledge that the grander story exists. Sometimes even literally having the characters move to the next scene on a revolving stage would be kino.
