Cape movies today are more likely to lose money than be profitable
>The Batman
772m (Small profit, underwhelming for Batman)
>Black Adam
393m (Bomb)
>Black Panther 2
859m (Small profit)
>Thor: Love and Thunder
760m (Small profit)
>Ant-Man 3
476m (Bomb)
>GotG 3
845m (Small profit)
>Shazam! Fury of the Gods
134m (Bomb)
>Across the Spider-Verse
690m (A hit, since the budget was lower)
>The Flash
271m (Bomb)
>Aquaman 2
440m (Barely broke even)
>Blue Beetle
130m (Bomb)
>The Marvels
206m (Bomb)
>Madame Web
100m (Bomb
>Deadpool & Wolverine
1.33b (A hit)
>Joker 2
207m (Bomb)
>Venom: The Last Dance
477m (Small profit)
>Kraven the Hunter
62m (Bomb)
>Captain Nigger
415m (Bomb)
>Thunderbolts
382m (Bomb)
>Superman
Struggling to hit 600m at the moment
>Fantastic Four
Almost a 70% drop off in its second weekend, not looking good for what are supposed to be the central characters of Doomsday and Secret Wars

It seems to me the biggest issue here are the enormous budgets. The current cultural interest in the superhero nexus does not seem to exceed the massive financial investment in them from the studios. If you look back at the capeshit from 2008-2016 the budgets were lower, usually between 110-170m and now it's rare for them to dip below 200m.

gee who the fuck would have guessed that vomiting capeslop every single fucking month would get people tired
Anonymous No.213322974
Did they really think people would watch these movies on the same level of investment forever? What kind of business logic is that?

>>Captain Nigger
Did they really call it that?

Superman is in small profit territory. It needs about 560m to break even and it will top 600m, plus it's more weighted toward domestic than usual, so the studio retains more of that. No doubt it disappointed WB but as a franchise-starter it's ok.

Nope tranny, tax fillings and scoopers all put the budget a lot higher than what WB claim

you are kinda missing the bulk of where money get made, collab with food and selling toys goes with the quality of a IP

>>The Marvels
I forgot that existed and I'm sure I'll forget again.
>>Venom: The Last Dance
>477m (Small profit)
How does he do it

Superman actual budget is 560 but theatres keep a big chunk and they also have to pay Indians to shill on /tv/. Word on the ground is also that this movie is not moving popcorn buckets, leading to suspicion that people are sneaking in snacks

A lot of this has to do with skills disappearing from Hollywood entirely.

Set design, costume design, practical effects -- it's not just being able to do these well so they look great (though this is also lost), it's being able to do them for a decent price through budgeting and proper expenditure alotment.
They just rely on CGI for everything these days because "it's cheaper," but the reality is that the guys telling everyone it's cheaper also have financial interests in these CGI production studios and outsourced jeet farms and are profiting from their use on the side.

idek if board room execs and marketing autists can bottle that. It's all subject to such rapid change to the point that just making the movie shitty on purpose or hiring wholesome chunguses won't cut it.

Marvel killed the market by pumping out movies every year. Modern capeshit movies unironically need novelty ideas like deadpool (complete satire and making fun of itself) to make profits

Serious question here, why can't they make a good movie for like 20million, it's still a lot of money. Even a shitty attempt with some of those big IPs could make 100-200M.

I don't understand how movies can spend 200 million and then 200 more on marketing.

I didn't watch it but Joker 1 certainly didn't qualify as cape movie.
