Unless they're winning an Oscar nobody cares about the critical response to a movie

Tariffs. Movies literally need to make 3x more money in 2025 than they had to make in 2024 to break even.

Doesn't matter. Virtually no care what they think.
>audiences loved it
That may be true but the size of the audience matters more than the reception. There simply weren't enough people watching it, even if those that did loved it.

Going by WB's own projections, it really did bomb. Especially with international audiences.

Chinamen are done with Hollywood. They're going to have to make cheaper movies to compensate for the lack of all that revenue.

I literally just came back from watching it so I'm gonna regurgitate my review right here to get it out og my system.
I kept delaying it because I expected it to be really bad but it was decent, dare I say pretty good even. I was concerned it would have too much Gunn-esque comedy which would be a very poor fit for Superman but it wasn't too bad, most of it was just Krypto acting like a normal excitable dog but it's le funny because he has super powers. After Superman gets arrested there is a sudden concentrated burst of Gunntastic comedy scenes which was kinda jarring, but it gets back on track when they move onto the escape scene. Mr. Terrific was done well, Guy was done well, Hawkgirl was kind of a void. Lex was actually done quite well, this really surprised me. Using a Superman clone for the big final fight was the lamest thing though, surely you could have used Metallo or Parasite or something.
As for why it's not making as much money as it probably should it's hard to say, maybe it's that superhero fatigue people always bring up. I've often denied that was really a thing but I guess so many years of most of these movies being crap will cause people to just never expect to be good anymore. Also Gunn probably hurt the performance a bit by being an absolute retard in interviews, saying that the movie is about politics (it's not really) and that Superman is totally an immigrant you guise and that's totally important (this isn't even brought up at all).

It's doing fine in the domestic market, for the most part. Worldwide box office is troublesome, especially for a bit recognisable comic book hero like Superman.
