It's hard to compare them since you're comparing 1 season against 6, 8 episodes against 86. I think TD S1 beats any single season of the Sopranos, but the Sopranos is a much bigger work with much longer arcs so it's on another level, but it also has a lot of filler that brings it down.
The only fair way to compare them would be to remove all the filler episodes of the Sopranos to get only the important parts, then to compare them. That would be butchering the Sopranos though, so it's not a good option.
