Its a good film but not worth a rewatch.
The Prussian scenes were kino though and would have preferred the entire film to be about them.

All Stanley Kubrick films after a certain are just Social Darwinist stories. Man be violent and shit.
Barry Lyndon is my favorite of his, absolute kino.

I dno't get it either. What is the point in making a movie about such a boring useless faggot?
Anonymous No.213326112
Me neither. The massive tone shift was supposed to be shocking and depressing or something? No it just turned an entertaining movie into a borefest.

greatest movie of all time. the fact that kubrick got such a performance out of him, especially those end scenes, and ESPECIALLY when he's the same guy in this

Favorite movie of all time, or among the top 3, at least. Absolutely marvelous. Its about life :)

I dunno. I guess it's just a portrait of a man adrift on the sea of fate. He goes from rags to riches, endures hardship and success, and then I guess you can say that in the end even an act of mercy isn't enough to spare him from his past transgressions? It's very pretty.

Not worth a rewatch? It wasn't until I saw it the third time that I grasped its unabashed, pro-American subtext. Go back to capeshit.

Theres that line that just outright explains the movie. The narrator says that Barry had a certain personality and drive in him that led him to gain a fortune, but that same trait also causes him to lose it.

Its basically Georgian Scarface.
