You'll get swarmed like that priest in the beginning of the movie, scratched, and turn. The soldiers had goggles and fatigues and they turn the same. Infected can rip through clothing and skin fairly easily.

Now wooden spears might be good but you'll need to carry a dozen per person since one spear would be needed to kill one infected (it'll break, dull, or miss head/heart and be weighed down by infected). And spearing distance is close enough for blood spatter to hit your eye.
Bows are still the best.

Though for bows you'll still need to extra string at all times since you're not going to find suitable fibres just lying about in the wild and animal fibres would take long and involved processing to craft into bowstring.

I didn’t enjoy it. I think the people that are claiming it’s really good wanted it to be and haven’t come to terms with the fact that it’s really bad.
