The music video thing is genius on paper but does not really work in a film. But now it works way better since it's weird 90s music time capsule.

I don't know if it counts as micro, but a low-budget movie that stuck with me is Malatesta's Carnival of Blood.

The background of the production is, a guy who owned a bunch of real estate, including a carnival that was shut down, got his friend (who had never made a movie before) to use that location to make a horror movie that he could try to turn a profit with.

The guy basically gave his friend all the camera/sound/lighting equipment he needed, a virtually unlimited supply of red bubble wrap and fiberglass insulation that he had laying around in a warehouse, and $100,000 to make the movie with, using the carnival however he pleased, and left him to complete it with minimal oversight.
The problem is, he gave the director all the equipment he needed except the reels of film needed to record it. The camera used 35mm instead of the much cheaper 16mm film normally used for low-budget indie movies, so the director went and spent $98,000 of his $100k budget on film to shoot the movie with.
Now he only had $2,000 actual, usable budget to make the film.
He hired some college students who essentially volunteered to work on the movie inbetween classes, he built the sets out of mostly bubble wrap and random litter that was all over the carnival, he got his brother to make an atmospheric soundtrack, and he took no salary, instead agreeing to just get paid a cut of whatever the profits were when it released.
Of course it ended up making no money and he never made another movie again, even though in hindsight the movie is a unique kind of kino. The barebones nature of the production, combined with the relatively sophisticated 35mm visuals, makes for a very moody and creepy movie with an interesting aesthetic.

Barbarian, I had heard it was excellent but it was a massive disappointment. The twist was obvious as soon as they showed the deformed woman, and it ruined any tension that the first third had built up by turning it into a stupid comedy. REC already did the "giant deformed monster woman" concept better (and with a far more interesting backstory), and Poughkeepsie Tapes already did the "rapist serial killer who records his crimes" concept better. >Savageland
Fuck I love this one so much. I must have watched it at least 5 times now. Also it might be easy to miss but I personally believe that the government in savageland are aware of the zombies existing or at least beginning to catch on about their existence. It has been a minute since I watched it but theres a short segment talking about all the fucked up stuff border patrol agents see like finding a corpse that had died from dehydration but just a few feet away from them was a secret stash of water etc etc however for a moment the documentary guy explains how agents have been recently finding scenes that straight up make no sense and are just plain disturbing.. way more disturbing than usual that they wont talk about it at all. Im reading too much into it probably but if you rewatch the movie with "The government knows and is trying to keep things hush hush" in mind you'll see a few things that'll click

Tetsuo: Bullet Man is the one nobody talks about but I really liked it, I almost like all three of them the same just in different ways.
It stars a white guy in Japan and the dialog is very stilted simplified English. Like how the Generals speak in Godzilla films so some of the Japanese audience can understand. But it adds a magic surreal touch to an already strange film.

The Ripper was made by the same people who made Blood Cult, the first shot on video, direct to video Horror movie, not to be confused with Boardinghouse which was shot on video but made for theatrical distribution.

Anywho, a new Bluray addition was recently released and they got an interview with Tom Savini who hates the movie and considers it the worst thing he was ever a part of but took the gig as he was offered 10K for one day to say shitty dialogue and nothing more then was sold on his name, even though he's only in the last 10 minutes or so!!!FACT!!!

TIFF's Midnight Madness line-up was announced (and it's kinda disappointing). https://tiff.net/films?list&series=midnight-madness

Dead Lover
>A wily gravedigger (Grace Glowicki) falls for the one man who is attracted to her fetid funk (Ben Petrie), but when fate doth conspire, she takes drastic measures to preserve their love in this camp phantasmagoria.

Dust Bunny
>A 10-year-old girl procures the services of a hit man (Mads Mikkelsen) to kill the monster under her bed in this whimsically macabre feature debut from acclaimed television showrunner Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies, Hannibal).

Junk World
>A surprise attack on a joint expedition between humans and their emancipated clones becomes the freaky fulcrum for a dimension-hopping, time-travel fable set over a millennia before Takahide Hori’s original subterranean stop-motion animated opus, Junk Head.

Karmadonna
>Aleksandar Radivojević (co-writer of A Serbian Film) makes his directorial debut with an audacious satirical thriller about an expectant mother (Jelena Djokić) who receives a phone call from a deity that demands she obey a list of murderous instructions.

Obsession
>When a hopeless romantic makes a wish that his long-time crush falls in love with him, a sinister enchantment ensues in writer-director Curry Barker’s freaky and frightening feature debut.

The Furious
>Acclaimed action choreographer-turned-director Kenji Tanigaki (SPL, Flash Point, Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In) propels a desperate father (Xie Miao) into a knock-down, drag-out war to rescue his daughter from a nefarious array of cutthroat kidnappers.

Then the rest of the movies are comedies.
Fuck My Son!
Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie
Normal
The Napa Boys

One non-Midnight Madness horror movie will be Del Toro's Frankenstein.

Looking forward to the Furious. We really need Joe Taslim and lesser known stars to make these movies. Established and famous stars are not willing to take such insane risks and make fight scenes that the Indonesians have been willing to this past decade.
But the main guy is chinese and it seems like a chinese production so I dont know. At this point, you kinda need the less developed world to make these types of films.
Also, Jackie Chan seems to have a gritty actioner coming out in a few weeks. Look it up.

Thoughts on Castle Freak? It's the 3rd movie I might watch with Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton. I see it has a score of only 5.9 in imdb. Is it worth it for Barbara's (inevitable) sensual scenes or the movie is just too bad?
