The Haunting of Hill House
Watched it once halfheartedly when it came out. Rewatched it again this week and I'd forgotten just how good it actually was.
The casting for both the old- and young versions of the characters as well as the pacing are genuinely 10/10.

Whats good about it? When I watched it my only take away was that it was just about a bunch of basedlennials with 21st century mental health issues.

I loved it
As a fan of horror who doesn't like fun horror movies and therefore doesn't like most of the genre I really enjoyed it
I thought it was fun, at times scary and very spooky

It’s a solid show, just need an edit that removes the Blacked scene

To a degree yeah, but the series goes into quite a lot of detail as to how these problems came to be because they all grew up in a haunted house which would fuck up any person.
>The father wanted to protect his kids from the house, the cops and a media storm. Making him not spill a word of what's actually happened the night his wife died. Turning him into a martyr of sorts, hated by both the media and the kids as a wife killer.
>Steve didn't see any of the hauntings so he just starts believing his entire family is insane up to the point he sterilizes and starts lying to his wife himself cause he doesn't wanna pass on insanity genes
>Theo developed a psychic trait turning her into a mega-psycho-empath where she can read a person's past and intentions with the touch of a hand. She copes by using this power to help other peoples' problems while keeping everyone from solving hers.
>Shirley became obsessed with 'fixing' death due to her father's fixing-obsession and seeing a mortician 'fix' her mother's corpse and make her look beautiful again.
>As a kid, Luke caught the brunt of the hauntings and watched his posessed mother murder his friend. Consequently he turned to heroin to cope as an adult.
>Elleanor got haunted by her own fucking death scene which then killed her husband.

Ending completely ruins it. Goes for some sappy sci-fi ending instead of something properly haunting and tragic. See The Others for an excellent example of how to do this right.
