It's definitely shaping up that way. Doomsday will have no big nostalgia cameos and all the X-Men are nobodies that no one cares about. Secret Wars has the gimmick of putting Jackman/Maguire together but that'll be way too desperate even for normies. I think the jig is well and truly up and the MCU will be dead forever come 2029. At most, I pretend they shift to a standalone movie gimmick, ala DC, out of sheer desperation to get some cred and money back.

Saw it yesterday. Was pretty good. I liked it better than Superman. It had a distinct visual appeal as opposed to Superman which was just “zoomer” and “Gunn movie” . Definitely needed to be more creative and varied with each of the 4’s powers tho.

The way this movie handled The Thing is the greatest example I ever seen of someone not caring about a character. He seemed aloof not overly depressed and not overly happy which is usually his tow modes. You want to give him this identity of brooding and loneliness like this scene suggests but when he simply walks in the street you see kids cheering him making him smile and woman coming up to him. No sense at all that he is a freak which is a big part of his character. There is nothing to suggest he is alone but they terribly try to act like that is the case here. Plus he barely does any fighting and hates his catch phrase

All I know for sure is Superman actually did win the summer in America (the only country that matters) and James Gunn is the new Kevin Feige, which he worked really hard to become and I am proud of him that he did it. I have said this time and time again some characters in the MCU can be their own stand alone movie but some like the fantastic four function as part of an ensemble cast.
