Well that's what I'm wondering, if he's signalling to Demerzel, why? It has to be something immediate. It's his plan, he decided the route, if he's working with Demerzel then she already knows where they're going and when. So flashing the lights as a signal only really works as "this is us, I'm signalling for you to do something right now or at least in the immediate future"

Show has always been kino.
But it's running right on track for my original prediction back when season 1 was airing that, like Dexter, GoT and Breaking Bad, it will pop off into the mainstream by the end of s3 and s4 will be a huge pop culture event.

I think that stargates are limited. There are a finite number of them in the entire universe which is overwhelmingly large. So a lot of areas will still be lightyears away from the closest star gate.
And if the region is controlled by Foundation or just not Empire, then the faction will also control the star gate which means that Empire couldn't use it.
