I wanted to make this thread

I was hyped because War of the Worlds (2005) is one of my favorite movies. I know Spielberg gets a lot of hate for it but I legit like it.

I found out this movie last week so I decided to watch it today since i'm a huge WOTW fan and I like Morpheus because Matrix and Ex Machina are also one of my favorite movies.

But holy shit was it bad

They had some good parts like the way it was filmed with the computer and whatsapp shit was nice

But holy shit the acting sucked and the special effects were horrible

Up to the last twenty minutes I legit thought the tweest would be that the whole invasion was a deepfake that only Ice Cube was seeing, all being orchestrated by Disruptor to trick him into uploading a virus into Guardian but nope, just a kind of low to mid sci-fi flick.

I got about halfway through and couldn't stand it. It's like watching a movie based on stitched together YouTube shorts.

It was so bad, I had to stop watching after 20 minutes. Everything was bad: acting, CGI, "the plot", the characters, the screengrab gimmick, the l33t hax0r tangent. Absolute dog shit diarrhea.

currently watching it. I don't hate the gimmick, I actually like Searching with John Cho. But this is not starting good.
Cube as the all seeing surveillance state and they could have established he loves to abuse his power with less than 3 personal calls in the first 10 minutes while he is supposed to take part in an FBI raid.
And I am fine with suspending my disbelief in camera quality and speed and all, just pretend you use bodycams. Seeing the FBI agent with a pistol and phone is kinda silly looking.

Yeah, it would be salvageable if it was used to introduce the characters and their relationship/ Sort of peek behind the curtain. Then went to a normal movie. Otherwise this is just lazy low budget attempt to cash in on a relatively well known IP and memberberries (tripod design, fog horn sound)

Searching also used that gimmick and was an okay movie. You should give that a shot.
