I think it would be even worse if you didn't know about the robot at the end. I myself only push through because of the iconic scenes dotted throughout. if I went in cold I'd definitely skip a bit.
of course back when it came out it was new/novel so people were on the edge of their seats, but that doesn't apply today. aka it didn't age well.

I felt it was a bit daft that the cops didn't acknowledge the threat of a guy who doesn't die when he's shot even after they've been warned that he's not a human.

I will forever wonder what Jim Cameron's grimdark Spider-man movie would have been like.

Funfact: Cameron also came very close to directing Jurassic Park, but was outbid on the rights at the last moment by Spielberg. Cameron said his Jurassic Park would have been "a lot darker" than Spielberg's version.
