Even mid-tier 90s movies had a strong atmosphere to them because of set design, actual soundtracks, and being shot on film.
Take the original Jumanji starring Robin Williams. By all rights it got a mediocre reception when it came out. But it has so much more soul than its "sequels" which are aimless instantly forgettable slop.

Remember when Bill Pullman was a big deal? And then everyone realized he couldn't act and he just kind of fell off the face of the Earth.

Considering he's in his 40s now that's not bad.

I absolutely agree with you.
Casper is a delightful movie that I watched every time it appeared on television. It's a shame its TV sequels have cheapened the franchise.
Zommers will never know what it felt like to watch good children's movies like Small Soldiers, Casper, Toy Story or Jumanji...and those times will never come back.
