2016 'Ghostbusters' was actually... great
Now that improv comedy has come roaring back in popularity thanks to 'Kill Tony' and Joe Rogan's favorite improv ASSASSIN Harland Williams taking down comedy newcomer/wannabe Sam Hyde, is it time to finally re-evaluate 2016 'Ghostbusters'?

It featured 4 improv NINJAS at the top of their game SLAYING for 2 hours. This is what good comedy looks like.

Remember when RLM reviewed this? Was right when Mike was trying to distance himself from his alt right fans after getting backlash on Reddit for complaining that movies always had a white businessman as the villain. Mike and Jay tried to prove how progressive they are by saying Ghostbusters 2016 was actually pretty good and that Leslie Jones turned in a great performance.

Can't make it up.

Their review ended with Mike telling people β€œstay far away from this film”, with Jay saying β€œyou should not feel bad for not liking this movie, for not wanting to see this movie, you have nothing to feel bad about, it’s a shitty comedy”, and with Rich saying in four months people won’t remember it, with Jay saying he would agree were it not for the controversy. They said Leslie Jones came across better than the others whereas the trailers had made her look the worst, but none of them liked the film and they didn’t pretend to

Just watched the review, they did actually say Leslie Jones was the best part. That may or may not be true, I never saw the movie. The one thing I did catch though was they said this is an example of a reboot done wrong but that JJ Abrams Force Awakens was an example of doing a reboot great. I forgot they loved that shit.

Reminder of what garbage wikipedia is
>The film grossed $229 million worldwide against a $144 million production budget, making it a box-office bomb with losses for the studio of over $70 million. Sony abandoned plans for a sequel,[11]
The cited source
>Ghostbusters director Paul Feig recently revealed in a Den of Geek interview that a sequel to the reboot of the Ghostbusters 1984 movie would not be happening. He cited the reason being the film was not able to break-even since it earned $230 million at the box office record and they needed more than $300 million losing $70 million in the process.
It didn't make the production budget back let alone the marketing budget. $70m isn't even close to how much they lost.

The improv was one of the things that dragged this movie down. It put in a bunch of scenes that don't add anything to the plot, it's just the actresses riffing on camera for too long. The whole third act was terrible though and really what ruins an otherwise okay movie.

You can see some of it on the DVD, there are deleted scenes and alternate takes, and a lot of it is just the actresses running through variations of the same joke, or running with a joke for too long. Don't get me wrong, I think all four of those actresses can be funny, but this movie was too unstructured. It feels like the script has a lot of "Character says something funny" rather than writing a solid film all the way through and letting the actors play in the margins.

Exactly. It's the same scam Indian companies do where they bill each other millions of dollars. The bills cancel each other out and it makes their revenue look huge on paper when they are actually making nothing.

Amazon got fooled by this scam for their Go stores. The Indian AI firm they hired were actually just a bunch of guys sitting in a call center watching what shoppers selected through the security cameras.

How the fuck did they think that would work out? The ultimate "fix it in post" mess. Hell, I just saw a video about the making of it and even on set the cast and crew were frustrated with nothing working out. Feig and Sony didn't really have a finished script and it wad a giant clusterfuck.
And this was a remake of a movie with fairly tightly written script full of memorable lines. I am sure I remember some ad libbing, but the original film seemed fairly composed ahead of time.

I liked it... I thought it was a solid follow up to The real Ghostbusters and Slimer & The Real Ghostbusters. It had that late 90's Korea digital animation look, that was seen in MIB the series, and the Godzilla animated series and the producers had to pull the rest of the 'S&TRG' cast out of retirement at the end.
