Ran out of shit to be mad at. And then the whole Screenwave shit got outsourced and he had the plagiarism debacle going on. It just became a way to make money when it started off as a passion project. He lost the passion for it, and so there goes the entire appeal of the show.

The end of the GameTrailers contract removed the leash that kept him and Mike on a professional, efficient schedule. Allegedly James also hired a service during the movie’s production to “teach” him how to act. It is painfully apparent starting with Schwarzenegger Games, he seems incapable of faking shit like laughter or any sort of emotion.

Some of his episodes are great because of his personal recollection to them and how he relives his childhood anger. After the movie, it seemed he was burned out and just kept doing it for money.

It also helped that he does genuinely like movies, and nearly all of the old NES reviews were games based on the biggest movies from his childhood. Anything beyond is out of his element, and he doesn't even try to pretend like he actually has played a video game past 4th gen.

He doesn't even play the games he talks about anymore. Mike writes all the scripts and the game footage is from Mike's streams now. James has very little to no creative input and hasn't for a long time.

I’ve been following James’ career since around ‘07/‘08, and to me, it felt like he ran out of gas somewhere around 2012-2014. I think it was partly the process of making the movie, only for it to be largely panned that burned him out, I think it was also a combination of running out of childhood stuff that he actually cares about on top of becoming a father.

AVGN Simon’s Quest - Monster Madness ‘14 is the beginning, middle, and end of Cinemassacre for me, but it was a hell of a ride while it lasted.

It stopped being a passion project and started being a job. Happens all the time. It's why so many iconic internet personalities eventually and inevitably crash out.

I feel like in the early years, he would have been a bit more reverential about it. Then, yeah, basically any point after that where he’s angry/exasperated, he’s yelling at the top of his lungs while having zero emotion about it. Compare that to the Batman Forevers rant where he’s breaking down the controls, and he sounds genuinely fucking pissed.
