yeah, and I feel like the "no talking" gimmick didn't really work for me. It made sense when she is alone for large parts of the movie but when she goes into town and everyone just fucking stares at her is where it starts to feel weird. Not that they would engage her in conversation, but I can imagine them cursing her out or even talking to each other but they don't even do that

Report for Fantasia Film Festival 2025 1/2

>New Group
Missed it due to flight delay. Heard it was great.

>Hold the Fort
Fun horror-action-comedy for the most part. Embarrassing when it tries to get serious for a second. Worth a watch but don't expect much. Werewolf costume sucks.

>The Woman
Great psychological thriller from South Korea. Some really spooky moments in the first act.

>Hellcat
Disappointing bottle movie. The director needs a better script. Werewolf movie, but robbed of a proper werewolf.

Anything That Moves
>Okay giallo homage. Lots of nudity, but more male than female. Has the kind of humor you'd find on old MDE skits, but it works well.

Report for Fantasia Film Festival 2025 2/2

>Are You Afraid of Fantasia
Short film program. Mort d'un acteur was the best; very fun dark comedy. Grandma is Thirsty was good idea executed well. Specter of Christmas had nice monster make-up and miniature design, but nothing special. Rest were youtube horror shorts tier.

>Kazakh Scary Tales
3 episodes of a horror tv series from Kazakhstan. Some creepy moments and spooky monster design. Didn't flow well as a single screening experience because it's a tv show. Would watch more eps.

>Sham
Solid court room thriller from Takashi Miike. Not as exciting as his early work, but a well made and sometimes uncomfortable to watch movie based on a true story.

>The School Duel
Interesting satire on American culture. Looks very good in black and white. Ending twist has been done before, but otherwise a very good movie.

Rest of what I saw were anime and short animated films. All very good.

Originally this shot was supposed to be cliffside. But the whole production was fucked up so they had to move locations, this was as good as they can do. I'm interested to see what a film without all of the excuses they had looks like, they should be getting a decent budget.

I'm joking but I still hate most newer horror movies. Its like how heavy metal was originally invented as a musical equivalent to horror movies in 1970. Then the genre peaked in the 80s/90s, and went to shit in the following decades (with a few good bands here and there). Horror's the same

zeitgeist but also you can even see in my list how much it changes in even my own perception. there's a TON of scream clones and then they start in on 60s william castle remakes in early 00's. then japanese imports/remakes get huge. then oddball video game tier movies with the barely passable CGI slop. then low budget found footage makes a comeback after blair witch btfo'd everyone. on that note hellhouse LLC should probably be on there because i remember liking it but i dont remember the film at all cause i was drunk or sleeping when i saw it or something.

They need their media to also serve as propaganda and reinforce the narrative they share with the corporations that molded them. It's like a snake eating it's own tail (or a man eating the shit from rich capitalists assholes) They are frightened and offended by the idea of enjoying "dated" films, shows, or games that do not include hamfisted narratives about social justice.

I give it the same review as The Substance: good SFX/direction, decent plot hook, but the whole thing is padded out with excruciating "waiting" scenes where you know exactly how it's gonna play out and are just sitting through people slowly being embarrassed or humiliated or whatever.

There's two main novels, with two spinoffs (so far) and a comic adaptation. It's really only known within the Paleo-community and even then its kinda niche within it.

It's enjoyable. I am cautious for how the film will turn out, but it was co-written by the original author and the director has read the books. Some shots in the trailer did look iffy, but for the film's budget ($7.2 million) it does not look bad at all, the feather effects in particular are genuinely impressive.

My general hope/prediction is the film should watch like the 1st Predator movie, which I think would be ideal for an adaptation to be like.

I sadly have not read/watched either (I should watch Carnosaur tho) but I think its around the same quality as the first Jurassic Park novel since the dinosaur parts are the main highlight (duh), most people I've talked to online have enjoyed the first book, and the 2nd one is legitimately good though IMO. The first novel's audio book is read by Wayne June for those curious.
The books are quite violent and hopefully the movie does live up to that.

This is FF #197 for me. This is a tale of two halves. The first 15-20 minutes is pretty boring and uneventful, while the second half is actually respectable. This should be a 30-minute movie instead of a 45-minute one. Would have done much better just cutting to the good parts, and may be even expanding on them. It does contain two of my pet peeves; the first being the use of a flashlight that's clearly not modern as it can't illuminate anything, and of course the guy doing urban exploring doesn't even carry a gun. It's a 4-4.5/10, but even as the FF Chad of /hor/ I didn't like it.

Any movie about exploring abandoned/haunted locations, going camping, innawoods shit, etc. should have every character carrying. Would resolve most movies or force them to write better. Same thing with the use of modern flashlights. Those fuckers can light up a large area like it's daytime.

watch Broadcast Signal Intrusion for a similar feel to HOTO. More paranoia, but still /x/.
Also Missing Child Videotape if you like j-horror.

the Wrong Turn series. particularly 4.
Lasso (2018) is one nobody seems to have seen. but for Laid To Rest tier budget I thought it was fine.

nta, but I was so mislead with that since it was listed on a FF site. It's honestly a pretty meh movie, I gave it a 5.5/10.

It reminds me of Kairo or Blair Witch Project - people either love it or go wtf that was a waste of time. Personally it's one of my favourite films in years, same as the ones I mentioned.

2025 horror movies I've liked in no particular order:
>28 Years Later
>Ziam
>Missing Child Videotape
>Found Footage: The Making Of The Patterson Project
>Marshmallow
>Borderline
>Final Destination: Bloodlines
>Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare
>Clown In A Cornfield
>Until Dawn
>The Ugly Stepsister
>The Monkey
>Heart Eyes
>The Gorge
Some are very 50/50 like Bloodlines & 28 Years Later and others are surprise likes with Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare being the best example.
