george used to be a great character because he reflected the darkest facets of all our personalities; narcissistic yet self-hating, manipulative, greedy, neurotic. it used to be acknowledged that people had these traits but that they tried to control them to better protect those around them but now people just seem to lean into totally self serving behavior. the number of teenagers i hear call every person other than themselves an NPC is crazy. of course, when you ask them why they're not an NPC they don't have an answer. they literally think the world exists solely for them and the people in it at lifeless blobs, totally acceptable to manipulative, steal from, and kill.
