>>213377680>can someone explain to me the fertility sex themes in alien? The original "Star Beast" script by Dan 'O Bannon entailed the background of a sexually pre-pubescent race of extraterrestrials that turned hostile if they didn't grow up without proper parenting. Their eggs were stored in a large, sexually raw silo, waiting for their birthing parents to return, but they never did. The crew of the Nostromo was originally meant to adopt one of the eggs, but the resulting offspring would grow to kill off the crew members as they neglected the juvenile alien throughout the course of the film, causing the latter to grow bitter and hate humans. It also implied raping the crew members to death, so the initial draft was more focused on the theme of "child neglect creates future rapists" or something like that.
As for the visuals, it's more to do with Giger's sexualized biopunk imagery from his artwork + the symbolism involving the fear of intercourse.
>Nostromo = womb-like prison>derelict ship = a woman's legs>derelict ship entrance = vagina>inside ship = dead pilot with phallic telescope>eggs open up like a labia>underside of facehugger = vagina with penis>facehugger rapes people in the face>chestburster = penis erupting from chest (this was intended to make male viewers scared shitless)>xenomorph = phallic head shape + feminine body>xenomorph life cycle = forced reproduction resulting in a monster>half-naked Ripley = moment of female vulnerability>Ripley = gender subversion + reclamation of autonomyThe 2nd draft of Alien was originally intended to be more sexually explicit, but that would've resulted in an "X" rating, so Fox told the studio to tone it down to meet the required "R" instead.
