American Pie if you mean as a snapshot of the time.

Well, American Beauty got all the awards. It represents the I Hate Work Angst of 1999 well, alongside it's fellow 1999 releases Fight Club and Office Space. On the other hand The Matrix has probably had the longest and strongest influence. The one that most accurately reflects the actual era is definitely American Pie (granted, I was a teenager, so that probably helps).

I think Magnolia best represents that year and period of filmmaking itself thoughever - An insanely technically accomplished film with a big budget and movie stars...that is a 3 hour long quasi musical drama about emotionally retarded losers. It reflects just how different Hollywood then and now is.

Really poetic how those characters were so neurotically miserable and their lives were pretty much the best achievable scenario for your average young man in 2025

Nah nigger it's Election
Anonymous No.213363674
Yeah no it's matrix. people are listing other films that could of been 80s or 2000s movies, no particular 90s culmination, or they're saying the anti work thing which is true but matrix also has that.
It has that, but it also has millenialism or whatever it's called (the spook in the air around the end of the millenium), and is about virtual reality one of the big three intrigues of the 90s (the others were dinosaurs and xfile-stuff)

what does Election do that wouldn't make just as much sense in the 80s or today?
