I think he might be one of the most weirdly/poorly written characters on the show. His dad died in season one and is not mentioned at all or introduced until the end of season two. He is 3 or 4 years into college studying pre med and was apparently on his way to apply for medical school but near his end is shown to be stupid, the game with Meadow, and described as slow only after his death.

I rewatched again recently and it just rubs me the wrong way. Did his dad bribe teachers to pass him? Did he just pay people to write his papers in college? For as dumb as he was he was shown to be a polite guy who even cleaned out the Soprano garage and actually worked with Aj to improve is football skills. He was rude because he was angry, he never came off as autistic or mentally ill.

It just comes out of left field for me.
