I'd be willing to bet big bucks no one here saw this.
>3 leads who CANNOT act
Who was this for exactly?

It's literally just Past Lives all over again but with like three humourous moments, jab towards manlets (based) and a subplot thrown in which doesn't really fit in the movie at all and I don't know what was the point of it even.
The subplot is about rape too. I guess it's kinda funny how easily it gets "solved". Literally just ends being brushed off like "whatever".

I saw it. Dakota Johnson is great in her lane and this film was in her lane.. Chris Evans was surprisingly good. Pedro not so much.

Producers who like to make profitable movies? 20 million budget, now 62 million gross with several international markets still outstanding.

I hate to say this, but I think Chris Evans does well when he plays against type (like villains and shit). And I heard both Dakota and Mando give a mean B.J.

Subplot was dumb yeah but I quite enjoyed the dating culture stuff. Some jabs at women caused a lot of seethe online. LOL. They always expect these movies to just attack men.

How did Dasha do/look? No nudity in this film?

She was in the movie literally for 5 seconds.
Anonymous No.213379719 >>213380030

She was in 2 scenes and Dasha is well suited for the two scenes she was in. No nudity yeah. I get that Dakota doesn't want to show anything anymore after 50 shades showed it all several times but there wasn't really anything steamy or passionate in this movie.

Her lane is being a corpse. The women has zero emotion on screen.
>3x it's budget
>A24
The budget plus marking probably is close to 40 million.

I really don't know what was the point of that subplot. I guess to give a contrast to the main characters who are super self aware and avoid conflicts and confrontations in their life (which was refreshing, I'm tired of annoying plotlines with love triangles where everyone acts like a retard) and maybe make Dakota's character more vulnerable and emotionally open? Like a reality check kicking her in the head. But it felt half-baked.

A24 is literally known for doing marketing that's effective yet extremely cheap. They produce / distribute mainly indie films so their marketing department is trained to be cost effective.

Movie could have been 30% shorter without impacting the message.
After she leaves pedro i kept waiting for it to end

You really think they didn't triple bump those numbers for this obvious woman bait? Johnson scores insane with dumb chicks because she's a 6 at best and Pedro is burning hot right now and Evans is box office gold with women.

It's shit. Starts off as a romcom but quickly realizes that it's a not a comedy but leans into being a romance but fails badly at that too. Drop all works by the writer/director in the future cuz she doesn't know how write characters at all.

Delusional on the marketing costs and a hater. It's going to $80 million gross after Latin America finishes and Europe/Asia come in. 4x is a success no matter how you try to spin it.
Dakota's voice is monotone yes, but she acts plenty with her eyes and hands, but you do have to pay attention because it is subtle.
>>213379752
Fair point on the main love triangle not being idiotic for a change. I agree there was a better way to handle it though.
>>213379794
>>213379752
Correct. A24 is very happy with how Materialists did. Eddington on the other hand, they have to be disappointed with right now.

Thanks 4 the info. Here's one of my favorite Dasha's as tribute.

Yeah if ur gonna make this film get nasty with it. The biggest uncomfortable truth they could come up with is that whores prefer rich guys to poor guys?
Holy shit?!

Natalie Portman better show the goods in "Good Sex" or I'm going to beat her ass!

I looked it up and A24 didn't even produce the film, it was two other companies. Which means A24 is only the distributor was outsourcing the marketing for those companies, which means A24 needs to only make the marketing money back.
And no, I doubt it was some crazy triple bump cause I haven't even seen that much marketing for the movie around. A24 never made a movie that reached even 150 million (their most successful film is Everything Everywhere All At Once at 143 million) i doubt they would inflate the marketing budget for anything that doesn't seem "extra". Materialists despite the cast is an artsy rom-com pastiche that feels like it was written by an /r9k/ user occasionally. Last time they invested hard into marketing was Civil War and that barely broke even, they're definitely scaling down. Especially when they need to cover the losses they suffer on very low appeal indie films they release for prestige points.

i think they probably expected that Eddington won't do well, it's not as big of a flop for them like Beau was at least, it only cost 20 million
i bet they're more dissapointed in Warfare underperforming which was literally an action movie / thriller

A completely nonsensical ending but it’s a 5/10 with a few good lines. The b story with the female client who calls Dakota a pimp is a good scene

I was surprised how kino this was for a "chick flick", and it was even shot on 35mm film too.
