If you're new to anime you should watch the following to see the best the mainstream has to offer
>Death Note
Part 2 is bad but fans of the manga promise it was just badly adapted. Worth the watch
>Attack on Titan
Worth the watch despite the horrible ending, this time the author did complete the story, he just chickened out of his original ending because it was...too depressing
>FMAB
The earlier adaptation had some moments that were better but this is the superior version. A shonen so good, no one bothers to even discuss it anymore
>Vinland Saga
Apparently the manga finished, probably another 5-10 years before it's fully adapted but what's out is good already.
>Pluto
The last third of the first episode is what officially hooked me in. Good story, rarely mentioned by anime fans.
>Berserk 1997
Too bad the story wasn't fully adapted, I'll never read the picture book.
>Monster
It's dark, pleasantly surprised that the tone wasn't ruined by silly anime cliques
That's about it for the mainstream shows.
>Baccano
Had a weird musical fight scene that felt out of place but overall great show.
>ACCA 13
Slow paced political drama, pleasant watch.
>Patlabor 2
Political thriller, as long as you know the basics about Japan's role in the Cold War and certain sentiments about their relationship with the US, you'll get the message.
>Perfect Blue
Psychological thriller, great third act.
>Sword of the Stranger
It amazes me that this bombed in Japan.
>Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet
The only watchable mecha show
>Cyberpunk Edgerunners
Does this even count as anime?
>Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
It gets pretty pretentious when it starts info dumping real world books and ideas that the average person doesn't know, and the second season villain was a silly clique but it's far better than the film.
>Welcome to the NHK
The only Japanese comedy that's funny
>Tokyo Magnitude 8.0
Sad ending, women ball their eyes out to this.
