I love this episode because of the kino Rob Bowman aesthetics as well as the absurd plot. Picard sent Riker to live with the Klingons because he was hoping he'd get killed in action so he didn't have to deal with him anymore. It would be like if your manager sent the assistant manager to work in a bad neighborhood, hoping they wouldn't come back. And IIRC Picard didn't even consult Riker beforehand.
This is an amazing shot for a piece of television that aired during a budget crisis in 1989.

Other positions given to main characters create interesting perspectives and conflict so you can base episodes around the medical doctor arguing with the scientist arguing with the engineer arguing with command. The pilot doesn't have anything to say. The only possible archetype is Starbuck-style maverick which they did with Tom Paris but when they tried to do another pilot in ENT the result was literally the worst main cast member of any show.
