This film is the ultimate and final result of Hollywood's dehumanisation of Nazis. The movie is so complex. It's just so fun to deconstruct and debate about, I think that it has many points and can be interpreted in lot's of ways. Although I think it is a very elegant and interesting statement that the same people cheering on Frederick Zoller are no different than those cheering on the murder of the Nazi officer protecting his men.

I'm going to be real, this movie is fucking kino. It's shot and coloured BEAUTIFULY and Taratino's dialogue peaked here. It's never been as riveting and interesting in any of his other movies. The whole thing is just brilliantly crafted in almost every aspect from near start to finish (even Tarantino himself admits the ending was kind of half-assed).

I'll never stop talking about Inglorius Basterds, and honestly it stands as my favorite film.

I think the most interesting thing about Inglorious Basterds is the character of Hans Landa. Despite his work for the SS, he isn't really a nazi. In the opening he isn't really saying the jews as lesser than the Germans, he is just saying that they are different and in fact says he thinks more like a jew than a German. I also interpret the café scene as Hans knowing Shoshana's identity and his insisting that she wait for the creme was him purposefully fucking with her (as putting creme on the dessert is a violation of Jewish dietary laws). Add on the fact that he abandoned the cause so easily and he strikes me as a serial killer given the opportunity to practice his craft instead of a national socialist. This is also similar to Hugo Stiglitz, a murderer who the basterds break out of prison just because he enjoys murder.

Honestly it isn't that big of deal considering the fact that almost all of the lower rank nazis ended up being freed after a couple of years because it was too expensive to keep them in prison. Nuremberg was definitely victors justice but the precedent didn't hold up in the long term.
