sometimes instead of pressing skip I enter a custom tip of $0.00. makes it seem like I'm leaving a tip when I'm not.
I hate frogposters more than tipping.
>>213399053It's complicated. In certain service jobs (waiters being the obvious one) they are paid under minimum wage in expectation that they are going to get good tips, so you are very socially pressured to tip at restaurants. If you tip 0 there's a good chance you will be confronted or refused service the next time you visit although I think this is technically illegal.
For delivery drivers and stuff like DoorDash drivers can see what you're tipping ahead of time and will just not pick up orders that don't have decent tips. Your food will just sit there and get cold.
Tipping has spread to other areas now and certain fast food places will ask for tips now even though this is ludicrous as the whole idea behind fast food is nobody has to serve you. Corpos have just figured out that 60% of people would rather just give a small tip to avoid the confrontation regardless of the situation, so it's popping up all over the places now.
>>213399053>consequences of not tippingDepends where you're shopping and how much you're buying. Not tipping at a gas station that has a tip option for some reason? Expected. Not tipping at a fast food drive through on a $20 order or af a cafe? Fine, though an employee with a shitty attitude might take offense. Not tipping on a $100 pick up order? Sorta shitty but technically not out of rhetoric, employees will talk shit once you leave. Not tipping at a table service restaurant? An outright insult, the server will assume either they fucked up bad or you're a piece of shit, do not expect to get good service in this establishment ever again.
It all depends on to what extent the owners consider the FOH jobs to be 'tip-earning'. In my state, many servers are still paid $2.33/hr because that's what restaurant owners can legally pay them since their job is supposed to be based on tips. Meanwhile, a gas station attendant is gonna make a constant $13/hr because who the fuck tips the gas station guy.

Not that they'd admit to the actual reason anyway, businesses cover their ass by refusing to disclose the exact reason for refusing business.
>>213403215I usually tip a few bucks on carryout for the local places I get it, just because someone had to go to the trouble to box everything up and get it ready for me, and they know me so I'd like to be treated well. i make decent money, and whenever I am dining out at a non-regular restaurant and I have a tab that will definitely be over $100 (e.g. taking my parents out in their city to a place they don't typically go) I will look for another person there who is there alone (or at most a couple who doesn't look like they ordered pricey drinks) I will ask the server to put their bill on my tab and then i will tip zero dollars. I usually end up spending more than if i would have just tipped 20% on my own bill but it feels good to take care of someone else's dinner for them and also stiff the servers for even more than i could have on my bill alone. I highly recommend doing this, it's better than dining and dashing because in those cases the staff feel so victimized but in this case they cant help but look like little tip-thirsty bitches. I just wonder if they've ever sobbed to the customers i took care of trying to explain how i didnt tip and how they still want some money from them. Honestly even if they did do that i think it would make me happy to know they would have had to grovel and ruin someone's gift of a free meal by being coerced into handouts for a dumb wagie

>>213410049"Pretty much" is doing some heavy lifting there, huh?
>>213411065To me the tipping apparatus only makes sense in bars. They know everything about everyone there and getting to know a few well, by bribing them with tips of course, will lead them to being your wingman. And if itโs a poorly managed bar theyโll overpour, give you free drinks and sell you drugs.
>>213403366the worst part is that the "delivery fee" doordash charges has fuckall to do with how much they pay the driver. you get $2 per order (plus tip) which increases by $.25 every time it gets bounced from driver to driver. eventually if nobody takes it, they move it to earn by time, where it'll be picked by the exact kind of spic/pajeet driver you don't want handling your food, and it'll be there late, and it'll be cold, and you'll probably have to call them because they took 3 wrong turns and are in the completely wrong neighborhood, and when they do drop it off it'll be put right in front of your screen door so you can't open it without knocking it over.
if you want your food delivered by a white driver you need to tip at minimum $1 per mile between the restaurant and your address. of course, it's not guaranteed, but you have significantly higher odds of at least getting the kind of driver who has standards about what orders he takes (who tend to be better at their job).
I will say this about the tipping system: it allows you to prioritize your own offer over others. that's the only upside. the system is a complete farce. there's no reason for pretipping to be the standard.
>>213398780Neither is being able to afford to eat out and live in a house but here we are
>>213409662Then why is it all adults working there? You can pretend all you want but reality is much different.
>>213411302I have never used the gay food delivery service and part of the reason why is that they want me to pay a tip in advance? Why would I do that? The gratuity is supposed to be in response for a job well done. YOU HAVEN'T DONE THE JOB YET!
There should be some kind of little tablet thing they bring with them to the door where you can tip them based on their demeanor and prompt/careful delivery of your food.
Yet, there are literally millions of people doing this shit every day because they feel important having Paco and Sanjay deliver the $6 hamburger for a fucking 100% markup, plus tip.
>>213411493>There should be some kind of little tablet thing they bring with them to the door where you can tip them based on their demeanor and prompt/careful delivery of your food. They people who order food delivery just want their food left at the door with no human interaction
>>213411547Realizing that you can order kebab with a "no human interaction involved" button changed my life.
>>213411493oh totally. although
>YOU HAVEN'T DONE THE JOB YET!the tip is just bait for a doordasher to take the job. they can see both the pay and the distance they have to drive (plus how many items they'll have to shop for if it's a shopping order) and can decide to accept or reject the offer. with these kinds of apps it's less like a gratuity and more like a bid.
doordash should just charge a delivery fee based on mileage and give drivers adequate base pay so that every offer is worth it (with the option to pretip if it's a dire emergency and you need the item NOW, or if you're in an inconvenient area, or it's late at night).
but they won't, because scab thirdies will take ANY offer, even if it makes them $6/hr after gas and wear and tear.
>>213397090I do this sometimes and very rarely someone will get mad and tell me they want to leave a tip.
>>213411547Sad!
>>213411675Nigger, you can't have someone stand in front of you and hand you the bag?
>>213411708Truly insane. Although, I do believe that man, as in humanity, is meant to work. So even though they're making basically no money they probably feel fulfillment from working.
>>213411989I'm not a nigger but the guy with the bag is so I don't want to interact with them.
>>213411989>So even though they're making basically no money they probably feel fulfillment from working.you're romantacizing it
I mean, I do feel fulfillment from getting certain orders done (especially if it's something like cough medicine for a sick child) but if it didn't make me money I'd just find a real summer job.
the main reason there are so many scab doordashers is because doordash strings you along with rewards and benefits for keeping your acceptance rating above 70%. these "benefits" are largely pointless (although they do help you a bit in terms of finding good orders) but a lot of drivers don't know that. eating the crappy $2 for 14 miles orders to access platinum rewards is not worth it since you can still get platinum-level orders with a 0% acceptance rate.
the other reason so many of them take crappy orders is because they genuinely don't take time, gas, and wear & tear into account. they just see how much money they made in a day and don't think about the cost of refueling, oil changes, etc. they're just dumb.
there's also the fact that many of them multi-app, where they string together orders from multiple delivery apps. this obviously leads to problems, but it can make taking bad offers profitable if they can pick up an order from another app going the same way.

>>213405978Multiple trips isn't really that bad. The driving is the only really hard part. If I could pay drivers proportional to the distance they drove without checking it myself I would, but we have this retarded percentage system instead.
You aren't a waiter bro. You're not remembering their order, you're not darting around other people at the restaurant, you're not checking on their table multiple times. That's the shit I tip for at a restaurant. Taking it from the car to their door is a straight line.
The only time you should be complaining about it is if there's terrible entryway conditions.

>>213415814Like other anon said, fast service and simple menu but also the other little things that the movie points out, like no greaser teens, no restaurant surrounded by vehicles with bellhops on roller blades and loud music, no dirty ass environment, it basically created a whole new thing that people wanted, a family-friendly environment to go for supper and it only took a minute max to get your food because the cooks weren't busy making corn on the cob, barbecue, scrambled eggs, fucking mashed potatoes, etc. They were regimented on cooking burgers and fries.
McDonalds changed the fast food world entirely, to the point that fast food has had the McDonalds model for decades at this point.
