i make decent money, and whenever I am dining out at a non-regular restaurant and I have a tab that will definitely be over $100 (e.g. taking my parents out in their city to a place they don't typically go) I will look for another person there who is there alone (or at most a couple who doesn't look like they ordered pricey drinks) I will ask the server to put their bill on my tab and then i will tip zero dollars. I usually end up spending more than if i would have just tipped 20% on my own bill but it feels good to take care of someone else's dinner for them and also stiff the servers for even more than i could have on my bill alone. I highly recommend doing this, it's better than dining and dashing because in those cases the staff feel so victimized but in this case they cant help but look like little tip-thirsty bitches. the worst part is that the "delivery fee" doordash charges has fuckall to do with how much they pay the driver. you get $2 per order (plus tip) which increases by $.25 every time it gets bounced from driver to driver. eventually if nobody takes it, they move it to earn by time, where it'll be picked by the exact kind of spic/pajeet driver you don't want handling your food, and it'll be there late, and it'll be cold, and you'll probably have to call them because they took 3 wrong turns and are in the completely wrong neighborhood, and when they do drop it off it'll be put right in front of your screen door so you can't open it without knocking it over.
if you want your food delivered by a white driver you need to tip at minimum $1 per mile between the restaurant and your address. of course, it's not guaranteed, but you have significantly higher odds of at least getting the kind of driver who has standards about what orders he takes (who tend to be better at their job).

the tip is just bait for a doordasher to take the job. they can see both the pay and the distance they have to drive (plus how many items they'll have to shop for if it's a shopping order) and can decide to accept or reject the offer. with these kinds of apps it's less like a gratuity and more like a bid.
doordash should just charge a delivery fee based on mileage and give drivers adequate base pay so that every offer is worth it (with the option to pretip if it's a dire emergency and you need the item NOW, or if you're in an inconvenient area, or it's late at night).

I mean, I do feel fulfillment from getting certain orders done (especially if it's something like cough medicine for a sick child) but if it didn't make me money I'd just find a real summer job.
the main reason there are so many scab doordashers is because doordash strings you along with rewards and benefits for keeping your acceptance rating above 70%. these "benefits" are largely pointless (although they do help you a bit in terms of finding good orders) but a lot of drivers don't know that. eating the crappy $2 for 14 miles orders to access platinum rewards is not worth it since you can still get platinum-level orders with a 0% acceptance rate.
the other reason so many of them take crappy orders is because they genuinely don't take time, gas, and wear & tear into account. they just see how much money they made in a day and don't think about the cost of refueling, oil changes, etc. they're just dumb.
there's also the fact that many of them multi-app, where they string together orders from multiple delivery apps. this obviously leads to problems, but it can make taking bad offers profitable if they can pick up an order from another app going the same way.
