Is it true that Vince or one of the other show runners developed a huge crush on the Kim actress, so the ending was changed for Jimmy to go to jail forever so they couldn't be together? Pretty based if true. Imagine tanking a shows ending because you have a crush on a fictional character. Reminds me of Ken Levine ruining Bioshock so he could write a neo-noir fanfiction with his Elizabeth character

The entire reason better call saul existed was to show that saul goodman didn’t “get away with it,” to firmly establish that crime doesn’t pay. Because no American media is allowed to have a “crime pays” message.

i think that was a secondary theme. at least for saul, it was about accountability for jimmy. his saul persona allowed him an escape from the emotions and responsibilities of jimmy. saul could have kept with the deal, reducing his sentence down in a very saul fashion, but the entire finale was jimmy finally accepting accountability and the true justice he deserved. as saul, he masked his time machine wish in the conversation he had with mike and walt; but deep down as jimmy, he really did regret how things went with chuck and kim. i thought it was a really great finale.
