The film was made in 2020 so I can understand the gimmick, since the original WotW was just a radio broadcast. So modernise it and there you go. The issue is you're using stock footage of battles instead of, you know, not. Even Cloverfield managed to do the odd bit.

The book is a lot more disgusting but it's also a lot funnier in a lot of parts, like Bateman flipping the back of his jacket up and basically Naruto running up and down Wall St after killing someone, or the entire conversation where they try to decide on what restaurant to go to.
