Just got back from a preview showing of Weapons
The movie is good but not as good as it was hyped up to be. The first hour and a half feels like a build up to a payoff Cregger knew he could never cash out
Sound is under utilized, music especially. The highs are a little flat because the soundtrack is forgettable.
Cinematography is really good, Josh Brolin a Ehrenreich steal the spotlight
Not sure if my audience was shit or if it was comical but people laughed at the climax, but i don't know if it was intentional on Cregger's part; it kind of ruined it

Yeah i've had a lot of those where the audience is scarier than the movie, and I really do think it's because a lot of extreme cruelty and violence is consumed as entertainment.
It's kind of like if you were a Roman and saw a Roman laughing at someone getting fucked up by a lion that escaped, you're going to assume they learnt that from the colosseum fights having that response. A lot of the liveleak gen figure gunshot wound to the head is the laughing with popcorn entertainment they paid for, so the kind of emotional immersion you're putting into it is different to theirs. It's harder to notice with horror films because a lot of the audience was that way anyhow, and excited to see the FX, kills, and gore, but it's the laughing at moments of cruelty where the genre or level of violence suggests the director did want you to be repulsed that I think fail videos kind of killed

Friday the 13th movies were made on the outer limits, the final frontier, where no one has gone before. They were cowboy movies.

I noticed that when I looked into that genre of games where one player is a slasher killer and rest are victims, then it rotates etc. Basically kinda like shittier L4D2 zombie - humans mode. This happened at two films I went to. The final scene of Smile 2 with the microphone, and the part in 28 Years Later where he hands him his mum's skull.
Both were laughably bad though so I can't blame them, but I do think audiences are primed for it because they watch so many films with "well that just happened" moments throughout them.

I'm a big fan of the sequel as well but Hooper made the right choice of making it completely different from the original so they're basically 2 opposite ideas on the same setting.

All the other sequels or remakes just don't manage to do it. It's either a cheap imitation or trying and failing to "update" something that doesn't need to be updated.
