Yeah they fucked up with that. I guess Bobby at 21 was the most interesting age for him to be for his plotlines, but it doesn't match with the rest of the show. Also it doesn't really work how a woman is still voicing Bobby after puberty. It would have been bad if someone else did it, but Bobby still sounding like he does in his 20s doesn't make any sense if you think about it for one second.

I wasnt expecting it to be great and i was pleasantly surprised with the direction.

They kept it more character focused and used the "things sure are different now" as mostly a b plot or side jokes. I thought that was for the best because all the character stuff in this season is pretty good and overall this season is higher quality than the last few seasons of the original run.

The voice recasts are off putting but they didnt ruin anything for me. As i was watching it i realized they wasted an opportunity to explain dale's voice changing because of years of chain-smoking that only worsened when the hills left texas. maybe even give him a Stoma and voice box. but i guess they didnt want him to sound like ned from southpark

I didnt like the decision to make bobby so young but i like what they made of his character and Joseph was funny every time he was on screen. It didnt make sense for him to partner with Chane for his partner who was basically his middle school bully. and it doesnt make sense that bobby and connie lost touch in middle school. did they not go to Arlen High???

Also on the subject of connie i didnt like the ENM stuff but they actually do a good job of calling it out as her being a hoe. and it fits with connie's character desu to be a slut but excuse it behind MUH LIBERAL VALUES or whatever, and i though she and bobby still had great chemestry.

Also really happy with the Good Hank episode, i was hoping they'd explore he and Bad Hank's relationship. and all the side characters were done well. Dale and Khan both felt like the characters even with the recasting. its clear Judge cared about the characters in this

Bobby being a competent chef with a good work ethic is great. It is actual character development. He had a good home and was raised by smart and well meaning parents. Joseph and Connie are direct counter arguments to parents who don't really care and ones who are way too strict. I just finished episode 4. It's really bad. It feels just like a continuation of the soulless later season that judge wasn't writing. It tries to be drama and a comedy and fails at both. The animation is like a 2/10. The voice acting is inconsistent. Some are the same, some sound terrible. I know judge is a much better writer than what I've seen so far which leads me to believe he passed king of the hill off and is just collecting a check and maybe working as a consultant/voice actor only. I was hoping to see him write something clever here. It's slop.

Canonically around 8 years have passed, which lines up with how much Bobby aged, yet it is supposed to be set in the 2020s, and Hank and Peggy act like they have indeed been gone/out of the loop for the roughly 15 years since the original show ended. It's fine since they had to come up with something and nothing would be perfect, but it becomes a bit weird when they want to treat the original show as canonical, when a lot of it would not make any sense at all in the context of the current show's date being in the 2020s. Granted, it isn't like the original show was too firm with its timeline, but having Hank and Peggy be simultaneously boomers and Gen Xers (the latter of which makes zero sense given their characterization), with Bobby being both a mid-millennial and a zoomer, is a bit much.

So far this is one of my biggest gripes. A 21 year old running a restaurant? Yeah I get Chang Wassonasong's dad provided the funding, but it still doesn't make sense. Kid's that young really don't have the drive to be head chef at their own restaurant. I mean, even Marco Pierre White wasn't a head chef in London until his mid 20s, and at that time that was considered extremely young to be a head chef.

I'm sure they wanted Bobby to be 21 for some other plot points, but it would make so much more sense if he was closer to 30 or at least in his mid 20s.

This is what I mean, it stretches credulity. A more realistic Bobby as restaurant owner would be that he ends up banging his teenage waitresses. That's what happens. Sorority girls do not invite chefs to frat parties...it just doesn't happen. But then again that's largely because there are few 21 year old head chefs of their own restaurant.

A more realistic scenario would be the girl inviting him to the party, and then when Bobby says sure he'll try to make it, she turns around and sarcastically informs the "Iron Chef" that she was just joking and she'd never want to go to a party with an overweight noodle-maker

Towards the end of the original they were trying to rehab Bobby as not a lazy stupid shit. The powderpuff one where he leads, the cultural fair where hes in charge and works hard, the vegetable garden where he puts in the effort for farming, and the hank is afraid of bats episode, where he learns the value of hard work and prosper planning, and the steak looking at final where took control and won. He was absolutely a useless turd for the majority of the series, so it is shocking what they decided hed become, but you can see it some of the hints at it.
