Her most famous role was Ghostbusters, she could have gone on, quite easily, to be a very successful actress from that, getting lots of roles, like Emma Myers.
However she decided to completely change her look, to such an extent that you wouldn't know its even the same person unless someone points it out. Not only that the look she chose was "generic blonde, dressed like someone approaching middle age". Not only is that not really appealing or exciting, the fashion equivalent of the colour beige, but its already taken by the girl who played Eleven in Stranger things. Had she kept the cute brunette look more people would have remembered her and she would have been first choice for those roles rather than 3rd or 4th if they couldn't get Millie Bobbie Brown, Sidney Sweeney, or (if age not specified) Lady Gaga.
She also made the mistake of going all in on singing when nobody has even heard one of her songs and couldn't even name one, unless they are a pre-teen girl. She's hardly going to be the next Taylor Swift. Yet after Ghostbusters many more people knew her as an actress. A sensible course would have been to be an actress first and sing in your down time, if it ment that much to you, but she actually refused many plum offersrs that would have raised her profile even higher because she wanted to be a serious singer.
Her choice, just not the best one even if she wanted to be a singer.
