It's been a century and there is still no kino that is faithful to the book.

I was going to say that the book is so old a faithful adaptation would look absolutely ridiculous, but then on second thought realized that is exactly what I want.
It would be brilliant.

I liked the Dark Horse comic, shame Scarlet Traces didn't really have much going for it besides the art design

Scarlet Traces gets a bit muddled after the British invasion of Mars arc, but it's still a pretty decent comic, even if the creative team have done better work together.

They will literally make a War of the Worlds adaptation that takes place entirely within a desktop screen before they make one that takes place in Edwardian Europe. The worst part is that the biggest problem with any modern WotW story is jumping through hoops to explain why our modern weapons won't work. Taking place in the early 1900s makes it so much more interesting specifically because of the limitations of technology and communication at the time.

the book takes place at the tail end of the victorian era, and I'm almost positive they've done that before

They absolutely did set it in Edwardian England. I remember people were kinda hyping it up when it was about to release on /tv/ couple years ago. But it was shit. The typical diversity quotas and the like. So it just phased out of memory

I believe the book takes place in 1901. I don't really know European eras, but as I understand it that is technically just in the beginning of Edwardian.

Forgot about this one. I do remember specifically being hype for this one because of the time period. But the more I saw about it the less excited I was and then I heard it was shit and never bothered checking it out. Wasn't too fond of their tripod designs anyway.
