Real answer: in make up, there is a thing called "contour". It gives the same effect as this surgery, but it's obviously fake. Some women wear it, some other don't. If you see older make-up styles, women would blush their cheekbones rather then outline them.
The Kardashians made contouring trendy and women tried to copy them with make-up, which is fine I guess, even when many look like trannies. So, this is just the outcome of it. Women want now that style permanent because they think it's hot to have those holes in their faces.

That might be true in some cases but it makes less sense for women like those in OP. Anya and Ortega are/were some of the most popular women in the world; it is other women who had to compete with THEM, not the inverse; yet they still mutilate their faces despite there being no pressure to do so.

The more likely explanation is that they do it because they personally don't like their own looks and think the surgical results look better, and aren't motivated by the opinions of others. In other words, they're crazy.
