Superman and Luthor had already cemented their positions. Superman admitted he's just a regular person and told Luthor that he has so much potential to do good if he'll just try, and Luthor immediately goes to death threats. There's no point in continuing the conversation at that point, just humiliate Luthor and be done with it.
