I think it's mostly a rights issue thing, yes the mouse owns the rights to marvel characters but eventually they'll expire and in the off chance they can't renew the characters are not made to look 1:1 so they can keep making money off the IPs even long after the rights expire.

Ennis wrote him the best. Frank is an actual deranged individual who goes above and beyond to avenge the death of his own family, which was simply an excuse for him to start kill people. It gives him permission, so to speak, just like when he joined up for the war. Which is why having the Netflix series give him PTSD doesn't really make sense, Frank secretly enjoys it and is drawn to it in an almost supernatural way.

I like the Max run, but Frank is a good guy that punishes evil. Even in the Ennis run he stops others from following in his footsteps. He really isn't that edgy he's pretty toned down for Ennis. 80s punisher would be better adaptation for the MCU desu. The spandex looks cool.

Thomas Jane was pretty spot on for a Jim Lee era Frank. The John Romita version (blocky wrestler) has been more influential ever since, but no one quite had that look. Maybe Ray Stevenson to an extent.

I think the dream Punisher movie that never got made would've been one starring De Niro or Travolta in the early 90s based off the War Journal arc.
